Hi Karen, will get the information to you on the Atkinson's probably tomorrow. Robert's wife's name was Hannah Nickerson, and they had a slew of children.
Where were you able to obtain Robert's father's name as Gideon? We have been looking for years for his parentage. We know he came to Nova Scotia on a ship out of Dorchester, England and married Hannah when he came to Nova Scotia. Hannah's father's name was Gideon Nickerson and her mother was Sarah Bearse. They both came from Cape Cod to Nova Scotia.
I will e-mail you the information. Take care.

I'm sorry, I have a correction.... Gideon was Hannahs fathers name. I'm sorry. I spoke to a local historian on the phone from Clarks Harbor. She gave me information from the top of her head. Many many of our ancesters still live up there, and states their all related to everybody. (laugh, laugh)

Sorry, but still would love to get the information from you if I could.

Kathy:

Do you know if Elkanah Smith and Elizabeth Kendricks had a daughter named Thankful that married Samuel Scott of Machias, Maine? They had a son, Elkanah, who married Hannah Nickerson. Thankful Smith is my 4G-grandmother and I am trying to identify her parents. Any help would be greatly appreciated. There was also a Rhoda Smith, possibly a sister of Thankful, in Machias at the same period who named a son Elkanah.

Elkanah and Elizabeth had a daughter named Thankful (born about 1766), but I have that she married Alexander Smith of Sambro, Nova Scotia. Their son, Elkanah, was unmarried. I have no info on a sister named Rhoda. What is the time period you have for Thankful?

Thanks for your reply. My Thankful Smith m Samuel Scott of Machias, Maine, c1775 (based on the birthdate of their first child, b Machias 23 Aug 1776). Assuming she was about 18 at the time of her marriage, that would put her birth date c1767. Their last child was b Machias 27 May 1797. I do not know her death date (or anything else about her, for that matter). Samuel and Thankful lived briefly in Dennysville, where their 6th child was born. There was a Smith family there, originally from Braintree, MA (from whom I also descend -- unrelated, as far as I know, to the Barrington, NS-Chatham, MA, Smiths). Perhaps Thankful is related to that Smith family.
