Francis Boole was part of the 17th Light Dragoons that was formed in Scotland, was sent to Ireland for 11 years, was sent from Ireland to Boston in 1775. They fought at Bunker Hill in Boston, on Long Island NY, and in New York City. After New York was under British control, they separated the regiment. Some went to Rhode Island, some stayed in NY and also fought in Conecticut, some went to Philadelphia, and some to South Carolina. I do not know where Francis was sent after New York.
There are several internet sites for the 17th Light Dragoons that are very interesting. Some are from the British point of view, and some from the American.

According to Franic Boole's land petition, he was a member of the 17th Light Dragoons. He was a Farrier and Tanner within the regiment. He served for about eleven years. Little survives as to his involment in the regiment. Most of the records for the regiment sent to England where lost at sea. What does survive are some of his pay records. These show some of his movements to and from England. The purpose of the land petition was for him to acquire additonal land to build a saw mill. According to several records, he was a yeoman and a blacksmith (his Farrier background). His son George Boole seems to be the only son to enter military service. George was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. with the Shelburne Artillery Milita.

I am interested in locating a portrait or picture of Albenia Martha Boole, the first wife of Donald McKay. Please let me know any information about a picture.

Thank you,

Mary Ann Walker

Albenia Boole McKay died Dec 10, 1848 when photography was in its infancy. I do not have a picture of her, but I sure would like to see one. However, I do have a picture of his second wife, Mary Cressy Litchfield McKay, and some of Donald's children.

Hello Paul,
Seen this old posting, and wonder if you could help. One of G&T Boole's ships, the Pomona, wrecked off the coast of Ireland in 1859. I am familair with most of the published material about the wrecking and the great loss of life. I am also familair with an extrodinary run of bad luck attached to the the three ships, which are 'supposed' to have been produced by G&T from the 'same' drawings - Pomona, Plutarch and Endymion. I wonder have you any additional information. I am particularly interested in images.
Regards
Roy Stokes
