Hello, I have been learning a lot about my 92 year old mother, Charlotte's, family since I moved her closer. She is the daughter of Walter and Mathilda
( nee Phillips) Nickerson. A story that she recently shared with me was about the Great Halifax Explosion. Her father, Walter Nickerson, survived the explosion but his brother-in-law, Horatio Brannen, for whom he worked, did not. Horatio was married to my mother's Aunt Suzie. My mother never met her Uncle Horatio as he was killed before she was born, but she has many memories of her Aunt Suzie and Aunt Suzie's beautiful home. I was tickled to read your post as I have never known much about my mother's younger years in Clark's Harbor.

Thanks for your comments. I have spent the last year trying to assemble the Brannen family histories. I was recently tracking Walter, Trueman Horatio's son who surivived the explosion and other siblings. Perhaps you have some information on the death of Horatio's son Clarement V. who died age 20 in NY City.
Our line has a strong connection to Horatio prior to the war. My grandfather was the engineer on Horatio's salvage boat the COASTGUARD when they salvaged the HUNGARIAN. I am hoping find photos and stories that deal with that time.
I am glad to discover Horatio's brother in law Walter Nickerson. Can you give me birth and death and anything about his life? I am at brannbru@aol.com.
My line is Arch, Wm Henry, Jeremiah, John and Ira. I grew up in Centreville.

We have a family connection from the turn of the 1900s when my ancestors worked with your ancestors on salvaging ship wrecks.
I hope you develop an interest in your family history as you have a true Canadian hero and a most interesting GGGGrandfather
You also have an interesting GGGGreat Uncle Lawless that we should find out more about.

Bruce,

We have some information about Walter Nickerson, Claremont Brannen, and many salvages of wrecks by Horatio H. Brannen. I've sent you a friend request and message on Facebook with the details. It should go into your "other messages" in your Facebook inbox. I will also try your email.

My name is Britainie Nelson. My family still maintains Horatio's homestead at West Head, CSI.

Uncle Lawless sounds intriguing. I've never heard of him before.
