Could this be your John born about 1810?

April 14, 1886 County : Saint John Place : Saint John Newspaper : The Daily Telegraph d. Halifax, N.S., 12th inst., John BETTS, formerly of Britainshire, England

July 10, 1888 County : Saint John Place : Saint John Newspaper : The Daily Telegraph - Hiram G. BETTS who has been in New York in the interest of the New Brunswick heirs of John BETTS has returned. During his absence he devoted a great deal of his time inquiring into the Betts family history. He has traced back as far as Thomas BETTS, grandfather of Hannah BURWELL's husband. He was among the first to own a town lot in Norwalk, Conn. Mr. Betts says that he has found that the Betts family were among the leading families of New York and Connecticut, The property, he says, is still under the leases issued by John BURWELL and the rentals are being paid into the lords and ministers of the forests and streams, a commission under the British government. He cannot say what the future has in store, but he thinks there can be no doubt about their descent from John Betts.
