This is not a family that I am researching but I noticed that you hadn’t had a reply and thought I’d see what I could find for you. The 1911 Census is available at
www.automatedgenealogy.ca

Found the following family
1911 Census of Canada
Lunenburg Dist 16, Garden Lots, page 4
Freeman Walters, head, born Jan 1873
Adelaide Walters, wife, born June 1875
Luetta Walters, daughter born Jan 1897
Eva Walters, daughter born Aug 1899
Fred Walters, son born Sept 1901
Florence Walters, daughter born Jun 1904
Laura Walters daughter, born Nov 1907
Jennie Walters daughter, born Jan 1910
Evelyn Walters, daughter, born Apr 1911 (1 month old)

The marriage of the above Freeman and Adelaide is recorded in NS Vital Stats
Lunenburg Co Reg Year 1896, Book 1829, page 175 #136
Sept 1, 1896, Rose Bay, by License, Lutheran
Groom: Freeman Walters, age 24, bachelor, fisherman, born LaHave, residing LaHave son of Jacob and Sarah
Bride: Adelaide Zink, age 21, spinster, born Rose Bay dau of John and Catherine

The above and much more can be found at the NS Vital Stat website
www.novascotiagenealogy.ca

For instance the death certificate of the above Freeman is there which gives his mother, Sarah’s maiden name as Naas.

The 1871 Census records the family of Jacob and Sarah as follows

1871 Census Lunenburg Co., Ritcheys Cove, District 195-E
All German ethnicity, all born NS, all Lutheran
Jacob Walters age 47 b. abt 1824
Sarah Walters, age 32
Sophia Walters, age1

The following website is a wealth of information on Lunenburg German families
www.seawhy.com

The list of Births, Marriages, Deaths has the following
From St. James Anglican, Lunenburg
Jacob Walters born 1823-01-04, christened 1823-10-05 son of Leonard and Maria
Jacob Walters married 1869-02 Sarah Ann Naas

Hi,

I also had family in the Bridgewater area of Nova Scotia along Middle Lahave. My great grandparents were Edgar and Maisie Walters. I am not sure if they would be from the same family?

I have no record in my tree of your g/grandparents. If you have Facebook try the genealogy site for Lunenburg genealogy and ask in there they respond very quickly. Sorry I cant be of more help.

Hi Helena
If you go back to Sept 2010 of this thread you will see where I posted the information that "Flatdesk" was looking for at that tme. You can use the links I included in that post to find the information you are looking for.

I'm extremely surprised at his/her negative reply to your query as the information you are looking for is most likely part of her close family per my research for him/her. Apparently Flatdesk is not a proponent of "paying it forward".

The marriage certificate of Edgar Walters and Maisie Lohnes can be viewed on the Nova Scotia Vital Stat site

www.novascotiagenealogy.ca

This is a free site. You may need to download a viewer program to see the actual record. On the marriage certificate Edgar gives his parents as Simon Walters and Joannah Wentzel.

http://data2.collectionscanada.ca/1871/jpg/4396668_00393.jpg

The above is a link to a page of the 1871 Census of Lunenburg Co. NS. There are 5 Walter families on this page, one of which is the family of Simon. His father is Frederic, age 49 and mother is Elizabeth age 29. Simon is 6 years old and his siblings are James age 4, Silas age 2(should be age 3) and Mary age 2

One important thing to remember when researching these Lunenburg families is that there is a strong tradition of calling children by their middle name. I didn’t find a birth record for Simon but I did for his brother, William Silas who was born Sept 15, 1868. The birth record names his parents as Frederick Walter and Elizabeth (Conrad). Record lists their marriage as being on December 1863.

Hope this helps
Happy Hunting
Burdette
