HELP!!! I am currently compiling a list of Nova Scotia Kaizer Descendants for Lunenburg's 250th anniversary in July using church, cemetery, and government records, obituaries, etc. If you have Kaizers, Keizers, Kaisers, Keezers, Kisers, etc. in your family, would you please contact me so I can ensure I have accurate information? I will send you what I have collected on your family in return for any corrections or additions you would care to make.

I am related to the Michael Keizer (born in Germany abt. 1707) who came to Nova Scotia in 1752 aboard the Sally. My Great grandfather was Maynard Keizer who fell to his death seeking buried treasure on Oak Island. I have quite abit of information on most relatives, but it is hard to find out anything about Maynard Keizer. I live in Michigan and plan to visit Nova Scotia in 2004.

You're absolutely right, there isn't much available on Maynard. Here's what I have:
PANS mfm 15047 Canon Harris' Notes, 1986: Maynard of David Keizer and Eliza Borgelt married Annie McDade. Supposed to be in Scotland.

Deed Book 27 Pg. 508 Recorded 20 July, 1875 #436. Maynard Keyser of Chester and Peter Keyser to Joseph Keyser, deed...Part of Lot #2 beg. N. boundary of Saltzman's to stone wall on Lot #2, also back land, same land as from Nelson and Cassie, dated 2 Nov, 1874. Source: Willa Kaizer (Peter is Maynard's grandfather, Joseph is Maynard's uncle, and Nelson is Maynard's brother. Nelson named a son after Maynard.)

Maynard died 30 Mar, 1897 at Oak Island by falling from a shaft. Source: White, Almira Larkin, Descendants of John White of Wenham and Lancaster, Massachusetts Vol II, (1900, Chase Brothers Printers, Haverhill MA), pg. 699.

Thank you for the information. I have a little more information to share. I am a descendent of Maynard Keizer. My records show he was born around 1841 in Nova Scotia; son of David Keizer and Anna Elizabeth Borgelt; and brother of Nelson. Maynard married Mary Annie McDade in Scotland around 1876. My family believes Annie originally came from Ireland. Together, they had seven children; three daughters and four sons. One daughter died at sea on the voyage back to Nova Scotia. She died of scarlett fever and was buried at sea. My family tells me that Maynard spent time in the Navy....but are not sure if it was the American or British Navy and they believe it was around his seventeenth birthday when he joined. Maynard died on Oak Island on March 30, 1897.
I don't know who the children of Maynard were except for my Grandfather, James Austin Kizer. James was born in Bannockburn, Scotland on April 25, 1882. There's a discrepency in the year the family sailed back to Nova Scotia. Some say Grampa James was 10 others say he was 14. In Nova Scotia, James lived with his family on a farm. When James was in his early 20's, he went to Saskatchewan as a surveyor and map maker. He married Laura DeAdder (from Nova Scotia) around 1902 and settled in Saskatoon as a carpenter. He helped build the first school house. They later moved back to Nova Scotia, where he became a stationary engineer. Carson, Austin, and Clyde where born to them while in Nova Scotia. James then moved his family back to Saskatchewan where he helped build and later operated the first powerhouse developing electricity in Saskatchewan. They lived in Humbolt where three more children were born. Ethel, Edith and my father, Maynard James.
My problem is trying to find the names of my grandfather's brothers and sisters and also finding more information about Maynard Keizer. I have tried checking military records for both the British and the American Navy but have had no luck. Any suggestions you might have would be helpful. Thank you.

Thank you so very much for all the new Maynard Keizer information! I had no idea about the Saskatchewan connection. Have you searched the Canadian war records for his WWI military service? www.archives.ca
If you haven't searched there yet the best way to do it is just to enter the last name, various spellings, to see what comes up.

Wishing you much success,
Sherry

I am doing the tree for the DeAdders. I notice that your grandfather married Laura DeAdder. I would love to exchange information with you. Even though Laura wasn't techinically a DeAdder, she is part of my family.

Laura Ethel Brewster was born to Maria and Curtis Brewster on August 29, 1885 in Nova Scotia. I don't know what became of Curtis Brewster, but when my Grandmother was 2, my Great Grandmaother, Maria, married Joseph DeAdder and Grampa Joe adopted my Grandmother. Laura married James Austin Kizer, my Grandfather, in 1902 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. They had seven children; Clyde, Carson, Austin, Ethel, Edith, Maynard(my father), and Lynne. My Grandfather, James Kizer was born in Bannockburn, Scotland. He came to Nova Scotia in 1896.

My Grandmother, Laura Kizer, died on May 19, 1989 in Coquille, Oregon, just short of her 105th birthday. She sewed and worked in her garden until the day she died.

I know that Joseph DeAdder, Grampa Joe as everyone calls him, had a farm in the northern part of Nova Scotia. I recently saw the house where my Grandmother grew up. I know that he sold the farm and moved to Milford, Massachusetts sometime around 1925. Maria had died in 1923 and Milford is where my Grandmother had moved with her family.

I have a couple of pictures of Grampa Joe and his and Maria's marriage certificate. I will attach them to this reply. If you don't receive them, please email me at wlgpudge@aol.com. Good luck.
