Ellen Bertha Garber was the daughter of Abner Garber, b. abt 1856 in Newcombville, Lunenburg County, NS, d. unknown, and Arabella Victoria Robar, b. 21 Mar 1858 in Maitland, Lunenburg County, NS, d. 11 Dec 1926, Bridgewater, Lunenburg County, NS. After Abner died, Arabella married his cousin, Albert Owen Garber. They are my great grandparents. I would be interested in the Wile family as well, since I grew up in Wileville and am interested in its history.

I am also related to Willed Wile - he was the brother of my great grandmother Sarah Lena Wile. Sorting out the Garber family is a work in progress - one of many.

I believe the marriage record for Bertha Garber to Willed Wile mistakenly gives her father as "Abner". He was Almer or Almar which I believe is supported by both his marriage record to Arabella Victoria Robar in 1878 and by the 1881 census. His parents were William Garber and Matilda. Any idea what her maiden name was?

Only family member I ever met was Edna Zwicker, his sister. He left Canada in early thirty's and married my Mother Carrie Nixon Leadbetter In Massachusets. I was born in 1939.

From early records of Lunenburg County which can be seen at:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~downeast/1...

William Gerber, married Matilda Robar in 1862. Also the same site lists birth of their son
Zenas Gerber born June 26, 1869.

The marriage of a Zenas Garber, son of William and Matilda, to Laura West in 1904 from the NS Archives site confirms that Zenas Garber and Zenas Gerber are one and the same--the name like so many of the German names has a very "fluid" past when it comes to spelling.
