Re: New Ross area, Lewis's
I have been researching the LEWIS and BROWN Families from New Ross, Nova Scotia for the past year. I have found no connections to Barbados. John Lewis was married to Sarah Brown, Hannah's twin sister, before he married Hannah. Sarah died in November 1852 after their 8th child was born. John and Hannah had four children one of whom was William Augustine Lewis. William Augustine Lewis, son of John and Hannah (Brown Lewis) married Sarah Ann Brown. Sarah Ann Brown was married to Rev. Heffernan before she married William Augustine Lewis. Sarah Ann's father, William Brown, was a brother of Sarah and Hannah, so she was Sarah and Hannah's niece. I am really wanting to find out information on the parents of John Lewis (grandparents of William Augustine Lewis). Elizabeth Klaas

Re: New Ross area, Lewis's
I have a copy of the 1891 census Kings County showing William Lewis, [My father's father] which lists his father and mother's place of birth as England. It lists my father 's [Lauren Lewis]siblings. My father wasn't born until 1895.
I have a immigrants to Canada listing of John Lewis's date of immigration as 1817 Reference No.MG 11 CO 384, Vol.1 page 467 Microfilm:B-876 I am not sure if this is the same John Lewis, father of William A. Lewis

Re: New Ross area, Lewis's
Just a thought on this. When I was researching my family I kept getting Barbadoes too. I found that Dover New Hampshire in the US was at once called Barbados and still has a Barbadoes section. Found my relative. Many people came through NH to Canada, Hope this helps you. Pam Schluter
