He was my grandfather, I have old photo's not sure if there are any of the whole house, most are pictures of the family with parts of the house in the background. The house became a barn for hay storage in later years, and then burnt down.
You can reply direct to jacksonr@nbnet.nb.ca

Thanks very much for these, but I already have them. This family is not on the 1861 Census - neither Edwin or his father Zadock. Why?

My primary objective is to connect Zadock to George and Hannah Bennet. I have already proven each of the families alone (primary and secondary sources). I am trying to link these two together with appropriate sources. I have all of the surrounding proof, just not the proof that links the two together.

Thanks for trying though.
Hannah Winslow married George Bennett (This has been proven - primary sources)

They had a son Zadock Bennett born about 1799; married about 1882; died 12 Nov 1875 (unsourced)

Zadock Bennett married Lucy Elizabeth Thorpe (This has been proven - secondary sources)

Questions: Does anyone have any proof/sources that Zadock is a son of Hannah and George; where did the death date of Zadock (12 Nov 1875) come from?

I am working on trying to provide sources for each Bennett in my family tree.
Terri:

Thanks very much for posting this. It has been a long road and it has been due to your invaluable research, that we are where we are today. I would like to thank you for your persistence as we worked through this monumental task. I would also like to thank Susan Roser (Mayflower Historian) who has reviewed all of data and given her blessing on our findings. Last, but certainly not least, I want to say a big thank you to Joan Boyd in NS, who has worked tirelessly for me and with me in finding tons of data for my projects including the most obscure and important piece of this giant puzzle - of course that is the deed that puts Nathaniel Winslow, Hannah Winslow Bennet and George Bennett on the same page with "Grandfather Elkanah Morton" Thank you all for the considerable support you have given. Of course, everyone realizes the significance of this project. My sixth application to the Mayflower Society will go out next week. I am sure that many reading this will also be preparing their submissions. Great job everyone. Thanks, Gary Bennett

Hannah Winslow who married George Bennett is the daughter of Seth Winslow Jr and Phoebe Morton. (daughter of Elkanah Morton Senior and Elizabeth HOLMES. (Elizabeth is a proven Mayflower descendant). Seth Jr is the son of Seth Winslow Sr and Abigail WHITRIDGE of Hardwick MASS.

This is now a proven lineage.

Hannah had 2 brothers [Kings Township Records], Nathaniel Winslow (b 1767) who moved his family to America (Westfield, Chautauqua, New York) before 1809; and Elisha Winslow (b 1770) who died prior to 1809 [not on the 1809 deed with Nathaniel and Hannah].

There is a deed (June 2 1809) in which "Nathaniel Winslow (of the American States), George and Hannah Bennett are selling land to Lemuel Morton in exchange for the sum of 15 pounds. The land was part of the estate of "our grandfather Elkanah Morton" of Cornwallis"

This deed, combined with marriage record for George Bennett and Hannah Winslow; and the birth records for Nathaniel and Elisha Winslow prove the conclusive relationship.

There is interesting documentation of Seth and Phoebe Land records for Seth in Liverpool NS; a Cornwallis grand jury case of "irregular living and cohabiting as man and wife with Ezekiel Calkin"; a deed in Liverpool for trade all of his lands in Liverpool for 482 acres of land in Horton on Nov 5, 1771 with Jonathan Darrow. (if anyone knows of this 482 acres, please let me know).

Phoebe Morton Winslow dies prior to 1771 [she did not sign her dower rights for Liverpool lands], and Seth returns to America to fight in the Revolutionary War and marry (2) Mary Church of Hardwick Mass and has one more son (probably named Seth).

If you would like additional information or copies of the documentation for this line, please feel free to contact me at Terridav@yahoo.com
Terri Davis

Hi, I'm hopin' someone can help me, I was entering more information in my tree on another site, when I came across a couple of ancestors, (4th or 5th great grandparents) and I noticed that they both died the same day at young ages, (in their early 30's) I'm wondering if someone could look up in an archive or old newspaper this date... November 10, 1767 in Cornwallis, Kings, Nova Scotia, the names are William & Sarah (Blackmore) Woodworth. Whenever I see a couple who died on the same day, it gets me curious, why did they die the same day and how? There's a story there. If someone could look this up, I would be most grateful thankyou.

I think he had to have been around 70 years old when hung because my great grandfather, James H. Robinson was born in 1937.
Hi there,
I'm of direct descent of Elijah. Yes, his parents were Peter and Elizabeth. They lived in a little village called Windemere in King's county Nova scotia. Peter's parents were named Christopher Wilson 1758-1851 and Rachel? born 1760. Chistopher's father was Robert Wilson(1716-1778) and he was the first of our clan to migrate to Canada from Britain. He brought his wife and existing children to Granville NS, Canada as a response to the British call for Loyalists. He didn't stay very long before moving to Road Island NY USA.
Don Carlos would have been my Great Grandfather. He died in the first World War without having met his son, my Grandfather, Paul Wilson.
Let me know if this is helpful.
Jennifer WW

Hi Carolyn,
I have some info related to Joseph Lyons because of his connection to the Wolfville Hotel. Although his obit reports his first wife's name as Elizabeth Thompson, I have reason to believe it was Margaret C. Thompson. (see Margaret's death 1873, book 1811 p. 93 #11, & marriage in 1871 at Nova Scotia Historical Vital Stats) I also have some additional Lyons info because of the Ryan/Lyons connection plus info shared by other researchers. You can contact me direct as the info is too detailed to write out here, it is in .ged format. Lyons info is sure "tangled" with many other Kings Co. families!
Maureen Farrell
mfarrell@bge.net

Thanks Gerry, I made one year of a mistake. I think the McLellan marriage was 1950. They seem to have a daughter in 1951. I am doing my best to read this but it is really badly damaged. Once again thanks for getting back to me so soon.
Kindest Regards
Liz

Hi Gerry,
I am looking for information on a marriage in 1950 in the Kentville area. My mother had done a family tree but unfortunately it has water damage and I can only read parts of it. I am now trying to sort it out on my computer. All I know is that the male's surname is McLellan and that he married 1950 in Kentville. I am still trying to decipher the rest of the mess, but the McLellans went to Canada from Scotland originally. I am still in Scotland. Hope you can help. Liz

OK, I went back and went through all my notes and found the father of the first William H. Dickey: [Thomas] David Dickey, the son of William Dickey. So the Dickey line goes

Matthew^1 Dickey, William^2 Dickey, [Thomas] David^3 Dickey, William H.^4 Dickey, Sommerville David^5 Dickey,
and his daughters Lillian and Maude are the sixth generation.

I put the name Thomas in brackets because he apparently only ever used his middle name of David.

As for wives, Matthew^1 Dickey married Janet Nesbit, William^2 married Mary McGowan, and [Thomas] David^3 Dickey married Anna or Eliza, but I haven't run across a surname yet. William H.^4 of course married Sarah M. Harrington (some sources may give Sarah A. Harrington) and his son Sommerville David's wife is in an earlier post on this thread.

The William H. Dickie who died in 1872 was the older brother of Dr. David Sommerville Dickie; William H. was
born right about 1820. In the places I've seen the doctor mentioned, he is sometimes referred to as Sommerville, sometimes as David. And probably the same goes Dr. David's nephew Sommerville David or David Sommerville; he appears in the Boston directory for 1882 as Somerville Dickey, carriagemaker, but I don't have many other cites for him. But thanks to the info you've provided, now I know to look in places like Colorado and Washington state instead of the Northeast.

Dr. David S. Dickie was the son of David Dickie, but it's tricky because there were at least two David Dickies in Kings County in the early 19th century. The one of interest here is the one whose probate shows Nancy Fellows, David Sommerville Dickie, Maria Belcher, Willian H. Dickie et al; The other one was the father of the politician Charles H. Dickie, amongst others (Mary E. Dickie, Matthew Dickie, Rebecca Dickie, Jane Dickie and Thomas Dickie). I have the David Dickie who's the father of Charles H. Dickie as the David Dickie who was the son of Matthew^1 Dickie, at least according to A.W.H Eaton's History of King's County.

So then, who is the father of the David Dickie who had William H, Dr. David S, Nancy Fellows et al? I wish I
knew!

P.S.
I find I have a wedding record for one of William H. Dickie's daughters: Ida Dickie married Albert Power 14 Oct 1876 at Cornwallis Baptist; her parents are given as William and Sarah Dickie.

Thank you for all of this wonderful information. Regarding David S Dickie son of William H Dickie that apparently died in 1872, I believe he is the line I am seeking. According to the 1871 census David was 13 in 1871 thus he was born about 1858. Family history indicates he married Elizabeth Bryan in Mesa Colorado and had two little girls Maude and Lilian. The family relocated to Seattle Washington area where most descendants live today. Lilian cared for her father in his old age and lived in a large home in Bellevue Washington in the mid 20th century.

It would appear that the 1837 David Sommersville that was the doctor might have been the son of David Dickie, older brother to William H???

You have done so much work, thank you so much!!!
Susan sperong@aol.com

William Dickey is apparently the son of David
Matthew/Matthew David Dickie, but I don't kmow
which of David's wives may have been involved.
David is listed in Canard as early as the 1795 tax list.

It's not too hard to come up with a quick list of
at least some of his children, thanks to
a convenient probate record from his daughter
Nancy, giving six children right off the bat.
Plus married surnames for the sisters.
(redundant location of Cornwallis and date of
8 Aug 1873 edited out to save space)

FELLOWS Nancy * BARNABY Marietta (deceased) sister
FELLOWS Nancy * BELCHER Maria sister
FELLOWS Nancy * BISHOP Ellen sister
FELLOWS Nancy * BISHOP Andrew brother-in-law
FELLOWS Nancy * DICKEY William H (deceased) brother
FELLOWS Nancy * DICKEY D Sommerville brother

There is another probate record of interest, for
David Dickey, with a list of children which sounds
rather familiar:
(the location of Cornwallis and the date of 15 Jun
1868 have been elided for brevity)
DICKEY David * BELCHER Maria daughter
DICKEY David * BISHOP Ellen daughter
DICKEY David * DICKEY David Sommerville son
DICKEY David * FELLOWS Nancy daughter
DICKEY David * DICKEY William H son

We notice immediately that Marietta Barnaby didn't
make the cut, so we guess that she passed away
prior to 1868.

(Source is the King's County Genealogical CD from
the King's County Historical Society.)

Of these folks, I have a fairly detailed timeline
of Ellen and Andrew Bishop, and a good deal more on
David Sommerville Dickey. And a fairly good bit on
William H. I don't have that much on Nancy, Maria,
and Marietta, but I imagine there's a good deal out
there that I haven't run across yet.

One interesting entry sometimes inadvertently turns
up others, such as these two consecutive entries in
the birth register for Kings County (which can be
found at novascotiagenealogy.com);

56 Charles Albert William Belcher, Male,
born 5 Feb 1871;
father: John L. Belcher, of Canard
mother's maiden name: Maria Dickey (married 1856)
57 Ellen Nancy Mavis Bishop, Female,
born 9 Feb 1871;
father: Andrew Bishop, of Canard
mother's maiden name: Ellen Dickey (married 1857)

The above is a bit messier in the original as the
lines in the second entry got crossed up with the
entry following it.

The 1871 Canadian Census gives an overview of Ellen's
family:

1871 Bishop Ellen 37 M Canard1 e1 82
1871 Bishop Frederic 17 Canard1 e1 82
1871 Bishop Frank 14 Canard1 e1 82
1871 Bishop Ernest 5 Canard1 e1 82
1871 Bishop Selia 12 Canard1 e1 82
1871 Bishop Stella 18 Canard1 e1 82
1871 Bishop Ellen N. 2/12 Canard1 e1 82
1871 Bishop Andrew 50 M Canard1 e1 82

This lets us guess that Ellen was born about 1834.

Similarly, the 1881 Canadian Census of Canard is very
helpful, providing us with more details about Maria
Dickey Belcher:

BELCHER John A 55 Married Presbyterian farmer
BELCHER Mariah 52 Married Presbyterian
BELCHER Arthur 26 Married Presbyterian farmer
BELCHER Charles 10 Single Presbyterian
SURRY Phebe 60 Single Methodist servant

BISHOP Andrew 60 Married Baptist farmer
BISHOP Ellen 46 Married Baptist
BISHOP Fred 24 Single Baptist farmer
BISHOP Ernest 15 Single Baptist
BISHOP Hatty 6 Single Baptist

(I've left off some of the highly redundant info
at the end of each line.)

1891 finds Ellen and Andrew Bishop still in Canard:

BISHOP Andrew 71 Head Head Farmer
BISHOP Elbert 57 Wife Wife
BISHOP Ernest 24 Son Son
BISHOP Hatty 16 Single Daughter
BISHOP Rupert 10 Single Son
PORTER Rupert 20 Single Domestic Srvant

They've got Ellen's named transcribed wrong,
but based on the other names and ages, I have to
believe this Ellen, not Elbert (the neighbors,
not shown, also help to sort this out).

1901 Finds Ellen still ensconced in Canard:

12 49 Bishop Andrew M Head M Nov 17 1819 81
13 49 Bishop Ellen S F Wife M Jul 9 1832 68

And provides us with a reasonable birthdate for
good measure. Not sure what the 'S' after
Ellen might denote.

William H. Dickey is apparently born about 1820, and
married Sarah M. Harrington from New Brunswick. At
some point their large family moved to the Boston
area. I have the following children, taken in part
from William's probate record dating from 1872 (he is
thus listed as deceased on his sister's 1873 probate).

Ida K. Dickey
Evelyn G. Dickey
Alice Maud Dickey
Harry L. Dickey
Lillian M. Dickey
William H. Dickey
Fred O. Dickey
Lewis Dickey
Sommerville David Dickey

I don't know a great deal about any of these kids as
far as birthdates, and so on. William H. Dickey is
I believe a misnomer for William W. Dickey, in which
the W. stands for Winthrop. There's a marriage
record for a Winthrop W. Dickey in the records of
Boston; he married an Annie Herrington of St. John's,
New Brunswick. On the marriage record his parents
are given as William Dickey and Sarah M. He also
shows up running a grocery business with a distant
cousin, Leander Sommerville Dickey, in Boston about
1878. After his marriage in 1883 he moved to St.
John's and can be found on the 1901 and 1911
Canadian Censuses.

Alice Maud shows up in some immigration records,
passing from the US to Canada and vice versa, at
various times.

Sommerville Dickey shows up in a city directory of
Boston working as a carriage maker.

The 1871 Canadian census lets us get a truckload of
info about this family when they still lived in
Canard:
1871 Dickie Ida k. 16 Canard1 e1 37
1871 Dickie Lewis 1/12 Canard1 e1 37
1871 Gilmore Herbert 28 Canard1 e1 37
1871 Dickie Fred 7 Canard1 e1 37
1871 Dickie Alice 11 Canard1 e1 37
1871 Dickie William 50 M Canard1 e1 37
1871 Dickie Sarah 38 M Canard1 e1 37
1871 Gilmore Ellen 2 M Canard1 e1 37
1871 Pearl Susan 19 Canard1 e1 37
1871 Crossman Alex 19 Canard1 e1 37
1871 Gilmore Hibbert 2/12 Canard1 e1 37
1871 Dickie Lillian 2 Canard1 e1 37
1871 Gilmore Rebecca 27 M Canard1 e1 37
1871 Dickie David 13 Canard1 e1 37

Don't worry about the name being Dickie. Odds are
roughly 50-50 on any given reference whether the
name gets spelled one way or the other, although
Canadian references use the Dickie version
much more frequently than US references.

And here is William H's probate record from 1872;
I've edited out the two redundant place names
Cornwallis and Canard and the date of 13 Dec 1872
from each line to save [horizontal] space.

DICKEY William H DICKEY Ida K dau.
DICKEY William H DICKEY Evelin G dau.
DICKEY William H DICKEY Alice Maud dau
DICKEY William H DICKEY Harry L son
DICKEY William H DICKEY Sommerville Dson
DICKEY William H DICKEY Lillian M dau.
DICKEY William H DICKEY William H son
DICKEY William H DICKEY Sarah M-Mrs wife
DICKEY William H DICKEY Fred O son

There is a death record for William H. Dickey at
novascotiaegenalogy.com, giving his age as of
13 Dec 1872 as 52, so we can guess he was born in
1820. It also gives his parent's names as David
and Eliza Dickey, which is reassuring.

There's a marriage record for Ida K. Dickie, dated
14 Oct 1876 in Cornwallis. She marries Albert
Power, son of John and Martha Power. Ida is 22,
and her parents are given as Will & Sarah M.
Dickie. Both families reside in Canard. A
Baptist wedding. (Year 1876 Book 1826 Page 102
#13). I haven't searched for Ida Power, so there
may be more information available on Ida.

Evelin G. I have seen rendered as Evelyn Gertrude.

I have nothing on Harry L, Lillian M, or Fred O;
and I believe that William H.'s eponymous son is
actually Winthrop W. Dickie or W. Winthrop Dickie
based on Winthrop's marriage record. In the 1901
Census of St. John's, NB, Winthrop's occupation
appears to be 'landscape artist' while his wife
Annie is listed as a grocer. In 1911, Winthrop
is a grocer. There's probably an interesting
story behind that.

Now we come to Dr. David Sommerville Dickey, a
graduate of Harvard Medical School, class of 1863,
who practiced in Canard in Kings County and in
some other spots around Nova Scotia. I'd guess
he appears in other postings in this forum, but
I will recapitulate the details for completeness'
sake.

David Sommerville was born in 1837 or 1838, son of
David (died 1868) and Anna Dickie. (Note that this
conflicts with the David and Eliza mentioned above)
David Sommerville dies 21 May 1893 in Port La Tour,
NS. He married Miss Prudence Rebecca Wickwire,
the daughter of William Wickwire and Lavinia Eaton,
in 1864 in Cornwallis.

(The name Sommerville is likely derived from the
Reverend William Sommerville, who ran a school in
Kings County and preached fire and brimstone from
various pulpits. His first wife was also from
the Dickie sept, Sarah Barry Dickie, the sister
of Senator Robert Barry Dickie.)

David Sommerville Dickie and Prudence had the usual
19th century profligate fecundity. They had nine
children, two of whom died young. The seven
children who made it past the age of two are
1. Catherine Kate born April 17, 1865, who married
Jeremiah Daly of Pubnico.
Four known children:
a) Nellie Daly, b 1 Mar 1888
b) Guy Daly, b 3 Mar 1890
c) Prudence Daly b 2 Oct 1896
d) Cathlene Daly b 4 Oct 1897
2. Leah Harper, born March 10, 1867, married John
E. Bethel, died November 13, 1888. She is
buried at Camp Hill Cemetery at Port La Tour.
3. Belle Fellows, born 1869, married Francis
Annis Brannen, who ran a coal and lumber
business with a sailing vessel in Clarks
Harbour. They moved to Massachusetts before WWI.
4. Norma, born 1870 (I have 15 Mar 1869), married
Osborn Goodwin and had two known (to me)
children:
a) Violet F. Goodwin, born 16 May 1898
b) Ira D. Goodwin, born 4 Apr 1899
(source: 1901 Canadian census for Punico,
Yarmouth County, NS.)
5. William S., born 1874.
6. Ira David Snow, born November 21, 1880; married
November 12, 1903 to Hattie Stella Smith, died
1948 in Pubnico, N.S.
One child:
a) Donald Norton Dickie, who married Hazel
Noreen Hines.
7. Annie F., born 1882, married Del Hamilton.

Lack of a spouse or children in the above list is
only indicative of a lack of information, rather
than of actual spouses or children.

The 1871 Canadian Census provides a snapshot of the
family while they were still living in Canard.

1871 Dickie Leah 4 Canard1 e1 33
1871 Dickie Belle 2 Canard1 e1 33
1871 Wickwire William 19 Canard1 e1 33
1871 Dickie Sommerville 33 M Canard1 e1 33
1871 Dickie Kate 6 Canard1 e1 33
1871 Dickie Norma 1 Canard1 e1 33
1871 Thorpe Eunice 75 Canard1 e1 33
1871 Dickie Prudence 27 M Canard1 e1 33
(William Wickwire is one of Prudence's brothers.)

Another key source of information for the Dickie
family in Kings County is A.W.H Eaton's compendious
tome, The History of Kings County, Nova Scotia,
Heart of the Acadian Land, which provides us with
interesting tidbits such as that John Sherman
Belcher married Maria Dickie, daughter of Thomas
Dickie. Oh, not David Dickie? So further
research won't hurt anything! Marietta Barnaby,
by the way, also turns out to have left a
descendency: one George Wentworth Barnaby,
mentioned in Marietta's probate in October of 1867.

Further prowling through novascotiagenealogy.com
also provided Nancy Fellows' husband's full
moniker: George Edwards Fellows (I haven't figured
out yet whether he is related to Joseph Howe
Fellows of political acclaim, but I haven't ruled
it out yet.) Nancy and George Edward were married
8 Sep 1858.

There are some traps for researchers looking into
this line, such as one of the other David Dickeys
in the area who left the following probate:
(location Cornwallis, date 8 Dec 1857 removed
from each line.)
DICKEY David * DICKEY Esther-Mrs wife
DICKEY David * DICKEY Elias heir
DICKEY David * DICKEY Thomas son
DICKEY David * DICKEY Matthew son
DICKEY David * LOCKWOOD Edward heir
DICKEY David * CHIPMAN David heir

I believe this is the son of the first Matthew,
who brought the family to Nova Scotia in the
1760's. The evidence is that his wife is listed
as Esther [Loomer Stevens], whom Eaton claims was
married to Matthew^1's son David.

Well, have fun shooting holes in this information
overload. Corrections and additions are always
welcome!
I have quite a bit collected on William's descendants; one of his grandsons ran a grocery store with my great grandfather for a year or two in Boston in the 1870's. I'll post a more complete reply in a day or two.
--Matt D.

I am trying to sort out the land owned by the Pineo Family in Scotts Bay/Cape Split. This is what I have.
"From the History of Scotts Bay, Nova Scotia" by Abram E. Jess, George Jess Jr. died on Feb 2nd, 1851 and left each of his nine children, about one hundred acres, all on the Cape Split property.
From the Jess.Payzant History compiled by Wellesley Tupper, George Jess Sr. and his son George Jess Jr sold all of their land at Scotts Bay to Reverend John Pineo about 1817.
I have a deed record whereby George Jess sold 900 acres of land situated on Cape Split near Scotts Bay to John Pineo in 1817.
I also have a deed record whereby George Jess Jr. sold one hundred acres in Scotts bay to John Pineo in 1817.
My aim really is to identify exactly where these plots of land were. Can any one provide any insight or advice or even a map?

John Pineo was my 4th great grandfather and The Jess family are related through the Huntley, Ells and Pineo families.
Thanks, Gary
Spurlyn

The DNA testing has assisted me in finding the correct family line. Although none of the tests give the name of
the common ancestor, it does link participants to the
correct family line. The results assist in narrowing
down hours, months, or years, of reasearching if there
are brick walls in one's family tree.

The 37 marker ydna is the one I would recommend to participate with first. It is for males only and is
easier to find the most recent common ancestor as it is the paternal line only. My cousin kindly submitted his dna (12-111ydna) to use as a comparison with matches. He and I share the same grandfather. There seems to be a higher
volume of participants and more matches received. The
37 marker can be upgraded to a 67 or 111 ydna test later
as the dna sample is stored in the lab for 20 years.

The mtDNA test is used for both male and female, but is only for the maternal line (mother to mother) There are
several choices of levels for testing. The higher the level, the higer the pricing. I chose the full sequence mtDNA for myself and then paid a minimal price to have the results interpreted. It is more of a challenge to find the most recent common ancestor shared as there are so many surnames. Also, many partcipants may only have four generations on their family tree and the common ancestor
may be beyond that time period.

I recently upgraded my mtDNA to the new Family Finder test. which is for both males and females and indicates relationships up to 5 generations. This test is more expensive than others, but will pinpoint from "close" to "speculative" relationships. Since this test is fairly
new, there aren't as many participants and there are fewer matches at this time.

Are you from the line of Capt Oldham Gates in Nova Scotia?
Hannah Benjamin B 1669 Cambridge, MA, married Samuel Gates
on 4 May 1688 in Stow, MA. Her sister, Jemima, married
Stephen Gates, also in Stow. This is the Benjamin link to
Capt Oldham Gates and his brother who married Trobridge
sisters in Framingham, MA. The Trobridge sister's parents
are buried in the Old Burial Ground in Framingham. This town is my birthplace and where I lived for over half my lifetime.

One of my most recent surprises is the three new matches with the Dodge line. I'm still trying to find the common
ancestor, but think it may be Josiah Dodge.

Enjoy!
Sandy Loughman
Jacksonville, FL

A few years ago, Allen Jess and I did research on the Jess side of the family. It needs to be updated and sources added, since I have not look at it lately. I might have the book you mention, will have to look this weekend and see. What is the title?

George Jess (Charlotte Huntley) parents was George Jess and Lizette Payzant. His grandparents was Joseph Jess and Martha Haxton. Joseph and Martha had a daughter Elizabeth Jess, who is my ancestor.

Thank- you for the dates etc. George L died fairly young around forty- six years old. That would explain why he wasn't in the picture with the others Jess brothers.Leander was my great-grandfather.His son was Elbert Jess and my father was Russell Jess.He passed away in 1990 at the age of 81. My mother was Georgie Huntley. Her mother was Mary Huntley daughter of Judson and Chris Huntley.Grammie married Joseph Huntley who was from Scots Bay. His father was Joshua Huntley.I think his was a William Huntley. Perhaps they were
descendants of or related to Daniel Huntley.

According to the Payzant/Jess book published in 1970. Charlotte Huntley married George Jess Jr in 1820 January the 12th.Charlotte was the daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth Huntley. Elizabeth maiden name was Wickwire.According to the book Charlotte was born in 1803 and died in 1878. George Jess Jr.died in 1951.No mention of Charlotte remarrying.George Jr and she apparently had the following children George L,Joseph,David,Leander(my great-grandfather)Sarah,Ann. They must have had another son because in the book it has a picture of George's and Charlotte's sons(page 275) of Joseph,Leander,David,William and a Daniel but no George L in this picture.I know he existed because he mention in the book.
