I have Theresa Wood b. 4 Jan 1859, who m. 2) George Allen SANFORD in 1886 was the dau of William (Charles) Wood & Pauline (Dodge). I think I got this from the History of John Sanford by Jack Sanford.
m. 3)in 1907 Alfred Augustus Marshall, s/o Mary J. Stark and William Burton Marshall. In the marriage record, it gives Theresa's name as Sanford (as she was widowed from George) and her parents are given there as William & Pauline which would make her a sister to Julia Wood who married Joseph Henry Wood, s/o Matthew.
Theresa's first husband was Moody Tooker and she had two children with him: Cora and Ralph. On later census Cora is listed as a Sanford but was born two years before her marriage to Sanford so I'm assuming she's a Tooker, and Ralph, age 8 when his mother remarried in 1886, disappeared until 1891 when he showed up on the census in Kings Co., NS.

On Theresa Wood's death record, her parents are also given as William Charles Wood and Pauline Dodge. Cora "Sanford", daughter, was the informant.

I hope I'm not going to muddy the waters any further with all these WOODs.
I see that there were no less than three Woods living in the Scott's Bay area in the mid-1800s. The first one to show up is a Charles Wood whom I had previously believed to be the Charles m. to Pauline Dodge. However, if his birthdate was about 1824 then it is unlikely he would have been signing a petition in 1836 for a road to be built from the main road in Scott's Bay to the shore. So, who was the Charles WOOD who did sign that petition? Charles WOOD b. 1783?
The next WOOD to show up was one John WOOD who purchased land from Joseph STEELE in 1847. Joseph Steele's brother, William married one Abbie WOOD, a daughter of the above Charles WOOD b. 1783.
Then, in the 1851 Census there appear three WOOD families:
John WOOD, Charles WOOD and James WOOD. I haven't a clue who this James might be.
Is there any clarity available out there?

Jerry,

Charles WOOD b. 15 Feb 1783 was the son of Ephraim WOOD and Mary WESTCOTT (or WESTCOAT). Charles m. Ann BURBIDGE, the daughter of John BURBIDGE and Abigail BREWSTER. The list of children of Charles and Ann are:
Abigail, Mary Jane, Rebecca, James, John, William, Robert
I think your John WOOD and James WOOD are the sons of Charles WOOD

I believe that the above James WOOD was the same as the James WOOD b. abt 1811, (father of Angeline, Adoniram Judson, George Andrew, Eliza J., and Rufus Sherman) who married Mary E. BREWSTER b. abt 1810. I recently found the BREWSTER surname thanks to the 1893 MA death record for Adoniram J. WOOD who died in Holbrook, MA. Although the estimated birth year is off, it does give his parents as James WOOD and Mary BREWSTER.

I suspect this Mary BREWSTER was a sibling of Ephraim, William J., and Charles B., although I have no proof that those three gentlemen were siblings either. However, if one goes with the 1881 census age for Charles B. and the 1871 census ages for the other three, then the following family group is a possibility:
Ephraim b. abt 1806
William J. b. abt 1808
Mary E. b. abt 1810
Charles B. b. abt 1816
I've made the argument before that the parents for this group could have been William BREWSTER and Susannah WOOD. Also, I'm wondering if this same William BREWSTER may have had a second wife Mary and further children Susan BREWSTER b. abt 1831 m. William OSBORN and Asher BREWSTER b. abt 1833 m1st Ellen LANGLEY, m2nd Sarah ELLS.
