Christmas Meals In Nova Scotia

I am trying to get a thought as to what a Christmas meal would be like for my Great-Great-Grand Parents David and Esther (Hill) Lingard and their 12 children in the 1870's.

Since they lived in Hants County, Nova Scotia and going by the census of 1871 they did have sheep and chickens. They did have a cow or two so there was butter, milk and cream. They also grew wheat and oats so there was bread. I can only think that there was roast chicken and potatoes with root veggies. Apple pie and cider as I know they had apple trees. There was deer and pigs.

I do have a recipe for a fruit cake that has been passed down from my great-grandmother Agnes Brown-Lingard who I believe she got from her mother Rebecca Tomlinson-Brown.

I don't know about Nova Scotia but I do have New Brunswick recipes that was passed down and one is an old old 13/14the Century fruit cake which is loaded with fruit, nuts and booze, lots of booze. It is one of the moist's cakes ever and when ever I make it I have a lot of people asking for it. Have a very good brown oatmeal bread too.
Then I have one of the easiest WW2 Norwegian white bread.
I also have an old Canadian cook book.
