I have been searching McCullion's worldwide (US, England, New Zealand and Ireland) but have lost the Canadians. Please help.

There was a John McCullion in Shelbourne in the 1800's. There was an S. McCullion in Halifax, NS and Annie Jean (MacDonald) McCullion (DOB 1913) in this century. There were also a Mr. G. McCullion in Kingston, Ontario.

Any help you could give would be appreciated.

My name is Kevin McCullian and I live in the Philadelphia area. Our family came from Glenties,Ireland in the 1840's to escape the Potato Famine. Most of them settled in Northeast Pennsylvania and worked in coalmines. My great Grandfather,Michael McCullian, never went to school He went to work in the mines at age 6 as a breaker boy.
There is a faction of the family that spells the family name MCCULLION because they think the proper pronuniation rhymes with onion.
Are there any McCullion/Mccullian's out there with roots in Pennsylvania?
Tthanks.

Kevin,

Are you related to the McCullions in Summit Hill (Jim Thorpe or Mauch Chunk) Carbon County, PA? Their immigrant ancestor was Edwin McCullion. Does that sound familiar?

There were my family who were from Schuykill County and lived in Pottsville. They too were miners. The immigrant was Daniel and he had brothers named James, John. This is directly north of where the Edwin family settled along a currently existing road about 20 miles and I have reason to believe my clan and their clan are related.

There was a family who immigrated directly to Philadelphia and they were descened from Bernard.

There was one family who was in the Pittsburgh area and I believe his name might have been John.

There was a family in Delaware (Wilmington) in the 1840-50 and they were decended from David and John.

I have a question. How sure are you that your family came from Glenties? Glenties is in County Donegal. The family of Edwin (Summit Hill) also reported that they were from Glenties but I have been unable to find the name when I did a direct search of Ireland in the 1830-40. A dear Irish friend used the archives in Dublin and wasn't able to find even a similar name in Glenties but did find them in the northern part of County Donegal. Any dates you have for Michael will be helpful if you can share them. (I do have some shipping documents with a Michael listed (I believe as a child) and I will look it up in my papers and share it with you if the birth date is at all similar.)

All of the McCullian/ion, etc. are from the Ulster provences. Currently the only families living in Ireland live in County Fermanagh and I have formed a friendship with all of them. (There are only two separate familes who report that they are from different ancestors.)

Thank you for your information.

I am related to the McCullions who lived in Pottsville, St. Clair, Schuylkill County, PA. My Great Grandmother was Susan Theresa McCullion-Leddy. Her father was John McCullion and I belive her mother was Susan Curry.

I have many decendents of John McCullion, but do not have ancestors. Any assistance with locating the McCullions back to Ireland would be helpful. I am planning a trip! :)

Edie,

I would like to get any informaiton about Bernard McCullion. I did do some geneology in Ireland and found a Bernard McCullion. Can you specifically give me a sense of when he emmigrated. I would use that info to be sure that your Bernard was an adult during the census that I have identified. If I remember correctly there were possible siblings also listed. I will go back and check my records and give you the county in the North of Ireland (All McCullions came from the North of Ireland, rather than the southern counties.)

Susan,

Don't know if you are still searching the McCullions in PA.
John McCullion was indeed Married to Susan Curry (father Patrick from Ireland). John's father was Daniel McCullion and his mother Was Mary McKeague (McAge). They were from Ireland, probably Glenties (Inishkeel) County Donegal, Ireland. Their two first born children were Mary (McGirk) Married Francis a first generation American; a second child was Daniel, Jr. (Never married) He was a Sergeant in the Civil War Vet with the 17th PA. Cav.they were born in Burlington NJ. The subsequent Children were born in Pottsville, PA. That included my great-grandfather James McCullion, also a Civil War Vet (6th PA. Cav - Rush's Lancers). John, I believe was the youngest child and was a fireman as well as a coal miner. He lived in St. Claire as did his sister in law Bridget McCauley McCullion who was a widow and married Michael Dalton. She was James widow and my great grandmother. They are in the Census from 1850-1890. The original Daniel had a brother Edwin (Ned) who lived in Summit Hill (Jim Thorp) Pa and the family tradition was that they were from Glenties, Co. Donegal. It seems to make sense. The only McCullions living in Ireland currently live in County Fermanagh, which is about 30 miles west of Donegal. They are dear people but probably not related to our families.

Kevin,

I am part of the McCullions that use the "ION." You said your grandfather was MichaelIs.Is he the son of Edward (Ned) McCullion from Jim Thope PA? That was probably the sibling of my ancestor (Great-Great Grandfather) Daniel McCullion and his brother James who settled in Pottsville, PA. Two of the first children were born in Burlington, N.J but settled in Pottsville. The Irish immigrant brother James settled in Delaware County, PA and changed the spelling of the name to McCullough (?). Two of the first generation sons, Daniel Jr (17th PA. Cav) and James (6th PA Cav. - Rush's Lancers) were civil war vets. That James was my great grandfather. I too grew up in Philly but now lived in Colorado.
