I've been looking for info on George Arthur Murphy and have hit a wall (sorry this is so long) I have his marriage register to Hester Maud Hames (Strong) and the death registration in 1954 from the Nova Scotia vital stats website. His marriage registration has his father as George A Murphy and his mother as Mary E. McDonald and his death registration (filled out by Hester) has his father as Thomas Murphy and his mother as Mary E. McDonald.
My father has 2 stories about his elders, one that was told to him by his mother (George's daughter) that an Aunt Minnie (not sure if it is my father's aunt or his mother's aunt) and that she died alone in the Halifax explosion along with her dog. I find no Minnie's that would fit that but there is a Mary E. Shaw that died and was identified by a Mrs G.A. Murphy. I then find that Mary Shaw was Mary E. McDonald and married a Thomas Shaw in 1880. The other story is that my father (when he was quite young) used to go fishing with his father and they would go to Purcells Cove where someone who was related to him somehow and was a McDonald lived. I have that person as Peter McDonald. His father and mother were Peter and Abigail McDonald from Shelburne. There are some other instances of Murphy's and Shaws being witness at other's weddings so I am confident that this Mary E. McDonald is George's mother. George does show up in the 1891 census with Mary and Thomas as being 15 (about the right age) but with the last name Shaw, he does not show up in the 1881 censes where he would be 5. I've been told that my dad's cousin William G. Murphy had been doing some research but unfortunately he past away several years ago.
Thanks again for any help
