COX, Florence May - 90, Halifax, passed away after a brief illness on June 19, 2006. Born in Halifax on April 12, 1916, she was the youngest child of the late William and Mary Cox (Ransom). She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Florence was employed with Farmers Dairy, retiring in 1987 after 45 years of service. Her employment commenced with Maple Leaf Dairy in 1942, Twin Cities in 1961 and then Farmers in 1984. Having served these companies in many capacities, she retired as Secretary Treasurer, a position she held since 1967. She was a faithful member of St. Theresa's Church, where she was a lay reader and a Eucharistic Minister. She was a member of the Children of Mary and a charter member of St. Theresa's Catholic Women's League, holding the office of President in 1964. She was a recent recipient of her League 50 year pin and its service pin. She was also a member of St. Vincent's Guest House Auxiliary and volunteered as a lay reader each Sunday in St. Vincent's Chapel. Florence was blessed with a talented sense of humour and had a joke for every occasion, bringing forth strings of laughter from anyone present as she shared stories from her mental library. She was gifted in many ways and shone when bringing a ray of sunshine into the lives of many people. She is survived by her niece, Barbara McKenna and her children Joseph and Paul; nephew, Ron Cox (Elaine) and his children Peter, Avila and Melinda; her sister-in-law, Violet (Wickie) Cox, and participated in all their family events and celebrations; her best friend, Charlotte Landry, and many other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Adele Warner, Louise Glassey; brothers, Jack William, Alfred, and Henry. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 22, in St. Theresa's Church, corner of North and Dublin streets. Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville.
