O'BRIEN, Elizabeth Gwendolyn "Gwen" - Bedford, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on June 21, 2006, surrounded by family and friends. Born in Oxford on July 14, 1922, Gwen was a daughter of Alexander and Ida (Fraser) Ross. Gwen loved the salt water and, together with her late husband, Ralph, spent many happy days sailing the waters of Nova Scotia. She also enjoyed summers on the Northumberland shore and swam every day regardless of weather. Gwen also loved to travel and some of her happiest years were spent living in France on No. 1 Wing Air Force base. She was a member of the "Ladies Ski Group" and a long-time member of the "Waverley Wednesday Afternoon Bridge Group". Gwen is survived by her twin brother, Robert (Doris) Ross, Wolfville; children, Judy O'Brien, Dartmouth; Bob (Pam) O'Brien, Bedford; grandchildren, Rob (Ticia) O'Brien, Bedford; Kelly O'Brien, Bedford; April (Angus Horseman) Curry, Mount Uniacke; great-granddaughters, McKenna O'Brien, Amber Horseman; sister-in-law, Margaret Ross, Halifax; several nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph; sisters, Gladys Creighton, Jeanette in infancy; brother, Donald, and half-brothers, Clair and Victor Ross. She was greatly loved and will be sadly missed. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are entrusted to J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax, where visitation will take place Sunday, June 25, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., and where a memorial service will be held on Monday, June 26, at 1:30 p.m. Family flowers only please.
