KEEPING, Edith Flora Patricia "Pat" - Lake Echo, died in the VG Site, QEII, on Friday, July 7, 2006. Born in Kentville, she was a daughter of the late Percy Edward Keeping and Frances Margaret (Thomson) (Keeping) Barlow. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts from Acadia University, Pat moved to New York for theatrical studies and worked in touring and repertory theatre. Returning to Nova Scotia, she worked in real estate sales before finishing her Master's in Social Work at Dalhousie in 1970. She moved to Lake Echo in 1980, enjoying her winters in Jensen Beach, Fla. In the late 80s, she developed the Frances Margaret Pet Sanctuary, named after her mother, and hoped it would continue to provide care to animals in need after her death. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Frances E. Dyer, Dartmouth; nephews, Edward (Nina) Dyer, Boutilier's Point; James (Sue) Dyer, Tatamagouche; nieces, Shirley (Mike) Murphy, Hampton, N.B.; Jean Dyer Goulden, Dartmouth. Visitation 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 9, in Cole Harbour Funeral Home, 1234 Cole Harbour Rd., Dartmouth. A memorial service will be held Monday, July 10, at 2 p.m. in Cole Harbour Funeral Home, Rev. Vance Arbeau presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Frances Margaret Pet Sanctuary Society, P.O. Box 1, Station Main, Dartmouth, NS B2Y 3Y2, or to the Nova Scotia Division of the Canadian Cancer Society.
