MacKAY, Georgina "Ida" - 102, Dartmouth, passed away July 7, 2006, at home. Born in Ilford, England, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Louisa (Benfield) Cosby. The family immigrated to Canada in 1913. In 1926, Ida graduated from the Ontario Psychiatric Hospital with her RN. She later became Director of Nursing at Nova Scotia Hospital, where she met her future husband. She was involved with various organizations, Port Wallace United Church, IODE, Canadian Red Cross, was a Cub Leader with Scouts Canada, and was a founder and president of the Clan MacKay Society of Nova Scotia. She loved bird watching and animals, gardening, painting and pottery. Ida was a life member of the Nova Scotia Bird Society. She is survived by daughters, Joann Morris, Heather Devlin, both of Dartmouth; sons, Lewis (Tess) Cosby, Liverpool; Robert (Eva) MacKay, Cole Harbour; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Dr. R.W. Murray MacKay; two sisters and a brother. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel. Interment at a later date. Reception to follow. Kelly Burke-King will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her favourite charity, the Canadian Cancer Society.
