Accquired my info from mother-in-law, grandaughter of Amanda Monk.She visited N.S.in 1981 and obtained it from a cousin.I have names of John Monk's children and who they married.Also his son Henry Monk's children and their spouses,but do not find your family name. Amanda came to U.S. as help to a family, and married Lucius W. French 9/1/1895,Berlin MA.They had one daughter, Cora b.1/21/1897, before her death around 1905. E-mail at marlobil@gateway.net

Hi, I see that your message is a few years old , so you have probably gathered the info you were seeking. Catherine DeBay (DeBaie) was my gggAunt.I heard there was a Monk family reunion on the Eastern Shore this past year, and a book was compiled on the Monk family.You may already know about it. Always glad to hear from relatives, regardless of how distant they may be.

I'm still interested in this line. Thank -you for the information on both the reunion and the book. When is the next one? Do you know if there are any photos of MONK ansestors in the book? Are copies available? I have the research of historian Mr. Kim Stevens and his thorough East Harbour history. My husband is a G.Grandson of Ima Amanda Monk French, daughter of Henry.

Hello,

John Monk and Catherine DeBaie are in my family as well. Do you know if either of them had a connection to the MicMac Indians?

Hi Helen;
My name is Cliff Augot - my partner is Brenda Hunt daughter of Theresa Monk in Hr. Breton. As you know you & Brenda are cousins. Most of the family have little interest in Genealogy but it is a bit of a passion of mine.
I have done a great deal of work on the LeBlanc side (very interesting stuff) but have just begun to scratch the surface on the Monk side. I was working my way back from Edward (b.1855) & wife Mary Fahie (b.1856) when I came across this post.
Something just seems out of sink with Edwards parents & the note about their marriage.
I came across a census note indicating that Catherine Debay was born in 1799 or 1800 & as your note mentions she was getting married for the second time in 1830. The record shows that she had a son named Edward Maurice Monk in 1833 but of course this is not the same Edward who married Mary Fahie as this Edward was not born until 1855/6. They were still alive when Theresa's was a little girl.
With the bit of digging I have done so far it seems that there is a generation between these two Edwards. They do not appear to be direct descendants but rather the parents of the younger Edward (b.1855) seems to be James R. Monk (b.1821) & Mary Ann Dewolf (b.1821).
As you mentioned this is really confusing stuff but here is a reference that makes sense to me... https://www.onegreatfamily.com/fh/James-Monk/547070871 . It also points to his grandparents as being John T. Monk & Susanne Tucker.
I would really appreciate it if you could help me figure this out. email if you like caugot@yahoo.ca
Thanks
Cliff
