Am researching Ancestors who came from Caithness Scotland to Guysborough Nova Scotia - I was wondering if an electronic version of Guysborough Sketches and Essays is available?

Many thanks

Kelly

I received a citation to the Jost book from a Kathy Kirby back in 2002, who was researching the Cogill family in Guysborough. At the time, it was not available on the internet. Your query prompted me to look for it again.

I had a lively correspondence with Kathy for about a year. I had the impression that she was elderly and may not even be alive today.

What is your connection to the Cogills? My wife is vaguely related to them via the marriage of Margaret Cogill to Samuel Gammon in 1822, which was the first of his three marriages. Samuel Gammon was my wife's first cousin, four times removed.

I have some data on the descendants of Gammon-Cogill, as well as some very sparse data on Margaret's parents and siblings. I am primarily interested in the Bissett and Gammon families, but became fascinated with the Cogills because of the variant spellings of their surname.

Elderly???? I think not! Obviously, quite alive and still trying to sort the Cogills out.

OOPS! I guess I was projecting my advancing age onto others that I have corresponded with.

Do you still have the same email address that you had back in 2002? I've been doing some work on the Cogills that I'd like to share with you.

2002? Wow! Um. I'm not sure. Probably. I've only ever had two addys-one for infornet which has been defunct for quite some time, so if it doesn't say @infornet it should be ok. Just send a test e-mail first.

if you have not found a copy of the book try your local library. I live near Kincardine, Ontario and the library was able to get me the book for 3 weeks from Trent University in Peterborough. If they couldn't get it locally they said they could order it from Nova Scotia and I would only have to pay Canada Post postage which would have been $3 to $5, however, they got it from within my Province.
Pg. 311and 312give information on a Dan Cogil, wife Margaret with 3 children of their children listed on the will: John/William/Catherine; other children are given for total of 8 (Ann born 21 May 1786; Margaret b 24 May 1788; etc) and who they married, etc. If this is your family I can scan the 2 pages and send them to you.

Hi Mary Thank you so much for replying to my post - yes, that's definitely our family. I live in Brisbane Australia hence the difficulty in finding out a lot of information from Nova Scotia - it has been a difficult journey trying to find Dan Cogil and his wife Margaret and their children. Also trying to track where Dan originated from some think it was from the USA others believe it was from Scotland so maybe we will never know unless I can find something documented in Nova Scotia on him. My email address is: justiceimperative@hotmail.com and I would love it if you could san those pages for me that would be absolutely tremendous. Once again thank you so much
