The names, dates, and place do seem to match for our Thomas Hugh[es], married to Jane Aikens in 1810 at Guysborough, Nova Scotia.

Hugh Hugh[es] was a U.E. Loyalist who arrived in Guysborough from NY in 1874. His son, Thomas, was listed as a child under 10 yrs. I know nothing of Thomas' occupation. Both are buried at Christ Church Cemetery:

CHRIST CHURCH BURIALS: GUYSBOROUGH
1787-1880
Hugh Hugh May 1815
Thomas Hughes March 18, 1860 77 (age)

Thank you very much indeed for this. I had a message this morning, which I imagine you have access to also - I'm not too familiar yet with message boards, that confirmed that the Thomas Hugh you mention is one of the first owners of the ship I am researching. Please see: www.lostbrig.net/elizabeth_jane_timeline_1817-1829.html

Thank you again.

I made a mistake on the Loyalists' move to Guysborough. It was 1784, just a year after Thomas Hughes' birth. Glad to be exchanging info! Liz

While I don't have information on Elizabeth Perry, I do have some information on the family of Mary Fraser who was the first wife of John A Aikens on your chart. I have been trying to find more and would like to share.

We probably got most of our information from the same source - Jost's Guysborough Sketches and Essays.
The only additional information I have about the people listed is that Mary Fraser was christened 24 Jul 1786 per Christ Church, Guysborough, and died before Sep 1839; and that she and John Aikens either 10 or 11 children in Guysborough.
John Fraser and Margaret Shaw were married 4 Jul 1805. He died 6 Oct 1857. They had 9 children in Guysborough. She was the daughter of Evan and May Shaw who arrived as Loyalists at the same time as the others of their generation.
William Fraser is in my direct maternal line through son John. I have been able to find a few details about his life during the Revolution in New York but absolutely nothing definite as to his origins.
Thanks, Jack

Thank you, Jack. Where was Wm Fraser in NY? I've been unable to trace any of my Loyalist ancestors back in to the states.

He was a civilian employee, as opposed to being enlisted, of the British Army Dept. of Engineers. He was mustered on 26/8/1781 at Staten Island, NY and Paulus Hook, NJ as a carpenter and sawyer. This is from the Carleton's Loyalist List and also from the actual muster rolls on microfilm. The name was spelled Frazier. I have not found anything about his earlier life.

It just occurred to me that you may not be familiar with Carleton's Loyalist List. If not, I'd be pleased to do lookups for you. There are a couple that could possibly be your Aikens.
Also I've assumed you are familiar with Archives Canada's Ward Chipman Papers. There is info on Samuel and Elizabeth Aikens there. Again if you're not, I can direct you specifically. Contact me direct if you'd like
