I am searching for my Mom's family. Her maiden name was: Maude McKay Hemeon. She was born on Hemeon Point, Little Harbour, SHelbourne County, Nova Scotiaon March 7, 1907. Her father was Gideon Hemeon and her mother's name was Jane. Not sure of her maiden name. My mother thought her father had met Jane in the states before they got married. My grandfather was married to another woman, I don't know her name. She died in childbirth or shortly thereafter. The had 3 daughters. My mother's siblings were: George, Henry, Sarah, Lena, (K)Catherine, and Mildred. My mother is still alive and was 96 this month. She lives in Florida. My mother did not remember any uncles, aunts, grandparents, etc. Any information you could give would be greatly appreciated.

While surfing for Hemions I found this post and I have more information on Adam Hemion when he lived in NJ, before he left about 1783 for Nova Scotia.

The following are baptisms from the Lutheran Church, Mahwah, Bergen Co., NJ:

9 July 1769, parents: Adam Hemion bp. Johann Heinrich wit: Heinrich Henion (sic) and Philip Jung's wife.

19 Aug 1770, parents: Adam & Sophia Himmion (sic) bp. John Baldefer wit: Baldefer Schuman, his wife.

5 Aug 1773 b. 1 July, parents: Adam & Sophia Himion bp. John wit: John Spros, Catharina Sprosm.

Adam also was a bp. witness for others, i.e., a son of Philip Jung and a daughter of Georg Himmion (sic).

I have read in a book that Jacob Hemion and his wife died within a short time of moving to Nova Scotia and that Adam Hemion became the guardian of their children.

I also have a bp. for the NY Dutch Church as follows: Philip Heyning and Catharina Adams bp. a dau. Sophia 26 Apr 1758 NYDC wit: Johannes Hootz and Sophia Jong zhv.

Adam, Jacob, George and Henry (Heinrich in records) baptized children and served as witnesses for each others children. There was also a Stephen Hemion who appeared in records and he is buried in Mahwah, Bergen Co., NJ. Does anyone have any information or dates on Stephen or the others mentioned above? Thanks for any help.

I have been reading some geneology re Christian Schweinsberger and also Hemeons. I was a Swansburg and my grandmother Swansburg was a Hemeon. Her father's name was Gideon. Grandmother Hannah Margaret was born in 1856. I was interested in what her mother's maiden name may have been and who her grandparents were. I thought the Hemeons had come from England but maybe I am wrong. I thought the first Hemeon in Little Harbour, Shelburne County, Nova Scotia was named Henry. ?????

Gideon Hemeon would have been my great uncle. I don't know too much about all of the children but George was drowned and had several children. I knew them all and went to school with some of them but in their teens they moved to the USA. Some are still living. I knew Henry and Sarah but I do not know where their children are. I knew some of them at one time. I think Gideon's wife Jane was a Matthews.

Clarence Reid Hemeon appears in the 1901 and 1911 Irish Census as the stepson of a James Wellwood. In the 1901 Census there is also a sister Florence M Hemeon (aged 2) who does not appear with the family in the 1911 Census - I presume she died in the intervening period.
