Classification: Query

I looked at the delayed birth record for Mary Evelyn and see that the applicant was John Mclaughlin of Church Point, Uncle of Mary
I see that Mary is shown as Mrs. Evelyn Breau, Church Point, Digy

there is a death for a John McLaughlin , Church Point, Digby
he died Nov. 21, 1955 aged 92 years 7 months 12 days
born April 9, 1863 NS
father John McLaughlin born Scotland
mother ............hard to read surname looks like it might be Stuart but not sure and first name looks like Saraphie ?
informant Eulalie Melamon, daughter

** I guess Saraphie is correct as I found her death in Church Point, Digby
Saraphy McLaughlin
died Sept. 24, 1909, age 85 years
born Little Brook
husband John
informant John McLaughlin

I assume the informant was her son

there is a delayed birth record for Joseph Alfred McLaughlin
born Church Point, Nov. 22, 1903
father Daniel McLaughlin
mother Marie Le Blanc
sponsors were Lemmie Melanson and Isare Le Blanc (hard to read)
he had applied for his birth record in 1928 but it looks like they found the bapt
cert. as it is on top of the app

I looked at census to see which one Daniel was last in
1891 DIGBY
Daneil 32,born NS father bon Ireland mother born NS
Marie 28, wife born NS parents born NS
Joseph 3
Ignace 2
Marie 0
children all born NS both parents born NS

As Daniel shows father born Ireland this is a possible for his father
same page
Seraphia 67 widow, born NS parents born NS
John 27, son born NS father born Ireland mother born NS

this seems to fit for the death of John above

1881 DIGBY
John 72 shoemaker, born Ireland
Seriphie 57 born NS
Annie 24
Daniel 22
John 19
Patrick 15
Jane 13
all the children born NS
*** there is also a Stuart family on the same page, right age to be possible sibling to Seriphie
so I am thinking that may be the surname I read above

I was having trouble finding Daniel and family after 1891 but this fits

Dane 52, trader born April 1859
Mary 46, wife born June 1864
Evelin 20, daughter born March 1891
Margaore 17, daughter born Oct. 1893
Johnney 12, son born May 1899
Margarete 9, daughter born March 1902
Fred 7, son born Oct. 1903
Regina 5, daughter born July 1905
Willie 4, son born March 1907
all born NS
the next family to them in John age 48 and family
*** Margaore's name is hard to read, that is how it is indexed, could be Mary Rose ?

1901 DIGBY
Don 41,
Marie 36,
Joseph 13,
Ernes 11,
Emelin 10,
Margaret 18,
Francais 2,
Delele 1,
all names are as indexed as this record is very faint so no sure how the indexer got the names but I think the age 18 should be 3 and as to the names I cannot read them but doubt if the indexer could either

1921 census - I cannot find any of them

I was looking in both the NS archives online and
but decided to see if had anything and found

March 9, 1886 Sainte Marie Catholic
Church Point, Digby, NS
Daniel McLaughlin
Marie Le Blanc

there is no image and no more info - I went back to the NS site but did not find it there

Do you know if they all stayed in NS? I assume Evelyn did as her delayed birth cert has her there in 1937 when she applied for it

there is a group of McLaughlin names in 1910 Haverhill, Essex NY
Joseph 21
Enos 19
Evelynn 28 (looks more like 18 in image)
they are all lodgers born Canada parents born Canada

In 1920 Haverhill, Essex , MA
Joseph 32 born Canada
Carrie M. 34 born Canada
Mary C. 6, born MA
Joseph 25 roomer born Canada

there are more records for this Joseph and his WW1 and WW2 draft record show he was born Feb. 28, 1888 Digby, NS

and Enos is in some border crossings he is going from Haverhill to NS, his mother Mrs. Daniel McLaughlin of Church Point, NS
his WW2 draft card says he was born July 31, 1890 Church Point, Canada

since Evelyn is in 1911 Canada census she must have returned to Canada

I looked in MA marriages and did not find Joseph or Enos but found an Evelyn McLaughlin married 1924 Haverhill and in the same place in 1924 is an Andrew A. Breau
could this be her husband as Evelyn's married name was Breau on the delayed birth record

in 1940 they are listed as Breault and yes, her husband is Andrew

I wondered if Daniel could have died in MA - did not find him there though

At I found

May 27, 1912 Haverhill, MA marriage for Joseph W. McLaughlin son of Daniel McLaughlin and
Mary Leblanc and Carrie Comeau daughter of John Comeau and Rose Deveau

From the 1901 census for the McLaughlin family it seems the children of Daniel and Marie were
Joseph, Enos, Evelyn, Margaret, Francais and Delele
and from 1911 Margaore , Johny, Margarete, Fred, Regina and Willie
many of those names and ages from 1911 faint and hard to read so cannot be relied upon

But, having said that it does seem that from Johny's age he is likely Francias from 1901 and Delele is not with them, nor a child of right age so maybe died young?

I went back to MA and looked for any other McLaughlins and there is a
John McLaughlin living in Haverhill with wife Mercedes in 1940
in 1930 census there is
Clarence 29 wood heeler, Born MA parents born Canada
Margaret 28, born Canada parents born Canada imm. 1920
Lorraine 4-2/12, born MA father born MA mother born Canada
Shirley, 4/12 born MA father born MA mother born Canada
Mary 68 mother in law - widow, born Canada imm 1920
John 30 brother in law tacker, - single born Canada imm 1920

so if this is right family then Mary spent time in MA and Margaret born about 1902 would be the Margarate from 1911 census

I looked for WW2 draft card for John but didn't find one

I looked for Fred and found this census with Evelyn also
Fred J. 27 stock fitter, shoe factory born MA parents born Canada
Mary R. 26, wife born Canada parents born Canada imm. 1911 naturalized
Gerald A. 3, son born MA father born MA mother born Canada
Alfred J. 1, son born MA father born MA mother born Canada
Antoinette Y. daughter 0/12 born MA father born MA mother born Canada
Evelyn 28 stitcher, shoe factory, sister in law born Canada parents born Canada imm. 1908
Margaret 18 sister in law born Canada parents born Canada imm 1919
Fred 14 tack puller, shoe factory, brother in law born Canada parents born Canada imm. 1919

also in 1940 Amesbury, Essex, MA
Regina age 34, lodger, press operator, metal spec. mfg. born Canada

she is in Haverhill directories in 1920's but not found in 1930 census

and William McLaughlin born about 1907 is also in Haverhill 1930 and 1940 with wife Louise
and children and in 1940 with them are Henry V. Comeau 74 and Louis Comeau 25
father in law and brother in law to Wm. so Wm. married a Comeau

so looks like Joseph, Mary R. and William all married Comeaus

from the census it looks like Mary and some others came to US about 1920 and
in MA death index for 1901-1980 there is a Daniel McLaughlin died 1926
Haverhill - no other info on him given but it is right place

I did not find Mary in index

June 6, 1916 Haverhill, Essex, MA
Fred J. Comeau age 24, showmaker born Haverhill
parents Larry L. Comeau and Celenie Comeau
Mary R. McLaughlin age 22 born Nova Scotia
parents Daniel McLaughlin and Mary Le Blanc

and Find a Grave index has Margaret M. McLaughlin Amirault born 1902 died Sept. 16, 2007 Florida, there is a short bio of her at find a grave

I looked for McLaughlin at find a grave in Haverhill
Enes born 1889 - died 1947, stone has his wife and two others - one being a Mary born 1864 died 1954 - seems likely to be Marie Le Blanc
so if she died 1954 she should be in later census records

Joseph born 1888 died 1973 - all that is shwon

John D. born 1899 died 1971 - all that is shown

William born 1907 died 1966 - all that is shown

no Daniel

I hope this helps a bit
