Needing help finding an ancestor whose first name is Amaret and I think last being Dakin.

Surnames: Dakin
I don't have her last name, or birth date, or much else. I believe her fathers name was John Dakin and her mothers maiden name may have been Tucker. When I started this genealogy journey I had made a mistake of trusting people's trees without verifying much, and so I am going back and trying to find out if what I have is right. Anyhow this is a hole I am hoping to fill. I heard there is a book about Dakin's from Digby so if anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it!
Thank you very very much.

The only mention I found about Amaret Dakin was one b. 1831, noted in the Tucker Genealogy, by Gilbert Ruggles and Evelina Christina (Snyder) Tucker published in Chicago in 1901.

Amaret is listed as daughter of John Dakin and Welthe Ann Tucker (b. 01-Mar-1810) married 17-Dec-1829 iun Digby. Johh was s/o Daniel Dakin and Sarah Warwick, b. in Digby on 09-Jun-1804, and died there 04-Dec-1877. Welthe died in Marshalltown on 10-Dec-1872.

Amaret was b. 27-Oct-1831, married on 21-Sep-1850 to Thomas Waters, who was b. 07-Mar-1823 in England. He died at see on 13-Jun-1871, off of Callao, Peru.

(Not in book - Amaret (transcribed as Ameret on NSVR website) died on 07-May-1909 at Digby Town, widowed, obviously, of Capt. Thomas Waters of Marshalltown. She was 76y 7m of age. Her son, Benjamin, was informant.)

The chidlren of Thomas and Amaret are listed as follows:

Elizabeth, b. 07-Oct-1831, d. 26-Feb-1874, m. W. S. Gilpin?
Mary b. 15-Aug-1853, m. 02-Sep-1876, W.S. Gilpin (widow of her sister?)
Alice, b. 06-Jan-1855, m. 20-Jun-1882 to Rev. J. A. Cairns - four children
Amaret, b. 09-Oct-1856, m. 02-Nov-1886 to D. H. Huxley - two children
Thomas b. 09-Sep-1858, on board ship off Peru, m. Theresa McLauchlin (resides in New Zealand)
John, b. 08-Jun-1861, on board ship off Bolivia.
Benjamin, b. 01-Oct-1864, Marshalltown, NS, m. 04-Oct-1887 to Cassie M. Denninson, was a druggist in Wareham, MA - had at least a set of twins.
Sarah Lalia, b. 20-Jun-1869, at Digby, d. 09-Dec-1872.

From NSVR site, to help confirm:

NSVR site (www.novascotiagenealogy.com) also has marriage for Alice Waters to John A. Cainrs in 1882, Benjamin's marriage in 1887, and Sarah's death in 1872.

Glad to help. Just so happens I had Amaret's brother, Augustus "Gus" Waters Dakin in my family files. He married into the SMALL family, which married into my Handspiker lines at least once or twice. Now I've added Amaret and some of her information.

Handspiker is a great name. I'm thankful I am not a Smith or a Brown trying to trace ancestors. That would be tough.
