My great grandfather,Edward Landry, worked in the coal mines of Joggins and River Hebert. I have an awesome picture, it is on cardboard, of Edward with a bunch of his co workers in the mine. I would love to know which mine and especially share the picture with anyone that may have an ancestor in the picture. It was taken sometime between 1900 and 1915?

Judy,
I found your post while I was looking on the internet for Mines in Joggins and River Hebert. My great grandfather, Edward Landry born in Memramcook married in Joggins, was a miner and I have this beautiful picture of him with his fellow miners taken between 1900-1910 ( the year span is just a guess as he married my great grandmother Alice Burke in 1907)I have been trying to find out which mine this was and if I could find any other people that may have an ancestor in this picture.

I have Victoire Fougère with her parents in the 1891 census. It is indicated that she is 7 years old which would put the date of birth around 1874. Her parents are listed as Ferdinand Fougère age 35 (born about 1846) and Élisabeth Fougère age 30 (born about 1851). They were in household no 88 Shediac Westmorland Co. NB.

http://www.lac-bac.gc.ca/databases/census-1891/001081-119.02...

I have found Élisabeth Fougère's death information at the NB Archives on-line. She died in Shediac NB on February 14, 1946. According to the information she was 92 years old being born in 1854. Her husband Ferdinand is deceased. Her parents are listed as Marin Cormier and Lucie Collette.

http://archives.gnb.ca/Search/VISSE/141C5.aspx?culture=fr-CA...

Isabelle is often used instead of Élisabeth in French. There is an Isabelle Cormier born in Bouctouche NB on March 19, 1856 to Marin Cormier & Marie-Luce Collette. The godparents are Denis Léger & Scholastique Cormier. (1)

Marin Cormier married Luce Collette in Bouctouche on October 18, 1841. No parents are listed. The witnesses were Maximin Collette & George Collette. (2)

Also, I have found at the NB Archives the death information for Ferdinand Fougère. He died in Shediac on September 19, 1942. His parents are listed as Thomas Fougère & Henriette Petitpas.

http://archives.gnb.ca/Search/VISSE/141C5.aspx?culture=fr-CA...

Thomas Fougère (Honoré Fougère & Madeleine Bellefontaine) married Herniette Petitpas (Nicholas Petitpas & Apolonie Vautour) in Grande-Digue NB on October 28, 1844. Witnesses were Honoré Fougère - father of the groom & Nicholas Petitpas - father of the bride.
Back in 1996, I was sent a typed copy of this return. I was told it is in the Public Archives of Nova Scotia. On the copy is typed Akins Collection Volume 359 Document No. 68. There are some possibly partial handwritten notes
M(G?) 100x,
vol 17x
no 12
where x = possibly an additional number

It may be filed under Loyalists.

Another reference (Nova Scotia Genealogist vol IX/2 -1991) says Akins, PANS, Doc 67-68

Alice Melinda Ripley Springhill or Wolfville church soloist around 1910

Hi there,
I'm trying to fill in some of the details on a story my grandmother Alice Melinda Ripley told me. She had a beautiful singing voice and often sang for special occasions like weddings and funerals. She told me that as a young girl (probably between 1908-1914) she would travel to Parrsboro (likely by horse) and then take the ferry across to Wolfville to sing in the church there. She was born in Maccan but living in Springhill with her sister Emma Ripey Langille in 1911. She was a Methodist but the Langilles were Presbyterian. It's likely that she traveled on the Prince Albert ferry across the bay. Any hints on how I could go about finding out more about the ferry or the Methodist churches in Wolfville or Springhill or accounts of weddings where she might be mentioned? Thanks, Mallory

Hi Arthur I responded to both you and KatNS privately. There is some confusion being caused by the marriage registration book at the Cumberland County Museum. I called for my mother and they don't seem interested. Clarke had a brother Charles. There are other Minnie's I believe in the Oulton clan but how this got registered this way I just don't know. I would expect them to put a note at least beside the entry!

I bit late to this conversation, but Minnie's paternal grandmother was Phoebe Goodwin whose mother was Elizabeth Chappell, brother of Charles Chappell (see http://ourmaritimeties.com/tng/pedigree.php?personID=I1526&a...).
I believe we corresponded before, but notice I have no birth/marriage/death dates/places for Clarke Hunter. Nor do I have his parents. Do you know where Minnie was born or died? I have her dates, but not places. Any of this information or other updates on descendants of Minnie and Clarke that you can provide would be appreciated.
Arthur (arthurowen1@gmail.com)

I would like to know exactly who you are. booreid@nb.sympatico.ca will find me! So Clarke my great grandfather's father John is a brother to your great grandmother! I don't understand the connection with Minnie B. Oulton, that is her maiden mane so how was she a sister to a guy called Charles Chappell? Loretta died 8th of June 1980. No need to go to the libary over this bunch (Clarke and down to me). I'll be your source. My Mom is still alive and so I thought I should do the family tree for myself before we lose any more of our elders.

Peter Montgomery died at Trenton, Pictou county on 04 Aug 1913. The informant is unknown in my family tree so there are a few suspect entries, namely that he was single. Might have been separated but was more likely was at Trenton for work, sending money back to Frances at Bass River.

Considering Peter, a Roman Catholic, was supposed to be buried at Bass River where Frances Ellen Hayman/Hyndman lived near her brother, Eri Sylvester Hyndman and father, William Hyndman (Methodist) who died in 1912, there may be an undocumented family plot near Bass River. Failing that, I'd suggest checking the RC cemeteries near Trenton.

HI,
I did the research for a friend of mine and passed it on. I was never able to prove that the Donald M Bruce (born c. 1840) who was supposedly from Pictou County, Nova Scotia and who married Elizabeth Sinclair of Rusagonis NB in 1870 was one of the Bruces from Barney's River. The name Donald Allison Bruce was passed on to subsequent generations. Donald was a miner and a mine inspector and was supposed to have died in a mine explosion in NB around 1884/1885.
