I've been reading your posts with interest as I also have VOLANS in my family tree and have been in contact with Amanda regarding the Nova Scotia connection.
What is your connection?
Thanks
Elizabeth

Thank you for the information I referenced my William with the 2 mentioned in your post. My Willian was born in 1873 his brother Samuel was born in 1877.
I checked to see if I couls find anything else about the date of birth but haven't used the National archives that often.
If you have anything else please do send it. I do know that at the age of 55 William was reenlisted back into the army he was an engineer of some sort. This is all I know. My great grandfather Samuel was in the Army as well but never served in any wars. My Grandfather George B 1910 enlisted but was discharged and only given 6 months to live as they said he had asthma but he lived til 93 so they were wrong.
Thanks again
Amanda

Hi, I came across a Volens recently in the National Archives in London, and I've been hoping to tie him up with another that I'm looking for. I was hoping some one on the boards might fill in the missing link for me. I told Amanda of the connection, but don't want to give too much away at the moment cause I haven't got enough information on the one I'm looking for. I'm not connected to the family name, just researching a Volens.

The only other information I had was of a Jane Volans who shipped out in the Empress Eugenie of Liverpool, official number 1382, on the 23 March 1864, but the vessel was never heard of again after leaving Singapore on August 21 1864. The details of the loss and crews names were sent to the board of trade on April 6 1865. I don't know whether this ship's record is held at the Maritime record office in New Brunswick.
Thank you for passing on the family information. I might be able to put it all together when I get further on the Samuel of 1840.

Do you know that if I write to the town library on where he was born they could help me, or should I write to Halifax instead? I still have the other gentleman from Halifax I told you about that I'm looking for. I just cannot find his father at all.

Hello,

I am researching the descendants of Samuel Volans and Sophia Mosher, my adoptive father was a descendant of theirs. I am very interested in tracing Samuel's ancestors in Yorkshire as I have no information about his origins.

I have only just found these messages and I hope to connect with other Volans researchers.

Thanks in advance,

Mary Anne in Halifax, NS
