Surnames: Jessome
Hi.. I am so very desparate to find any information on Bernard Jessome. Bernard was my moms real father that she never got to meet because he died of Tetanus (lock jaw)when she was 4 months old. My mom has passed on now and I am trying to leave a legacy of the family tree for my children and grandchildren. I believe Bernards parents were Frank and Isabela. Bernard had my mom with Lillian (nee) Jefferies my moms name was Sheila and there was another child my moms sister her name was Yvonne and she died of menengitis. I know they lived in Florence Nova Scotia at time of death. I would be sooo indebted to anyone who can give me any information. He was only 22 yrs old so I know there wont be much Oh and his birth date is Sept 19 1921. What mine did he work? Brothers or Sisters? Schools?? anything .. I am hoping through all of this searching I may find a photo of him somewhere I would love to meet my grandfather. But I dont count on it. Please !! and Thank you in advance.

The death certificate of Bernard Jessome is online and can be viewed at
www.novascotiagenealogy.ca
This is a free site maintained by the Nova Scotia Provincial Archives. You may need to download a viewer program that is free onsite to see the actual record

Florence Cape Breton County, Registration year 1944, Book 217, page 1130
Bernard Jessome – Died May 29, 1944, Cause of death-Tetanus (puncture wound to left foot from stepping on rusty nail)
Date of birth – September 10, 1921; Born in Florence, Nova Scotia
Married; Maiden name of wife-Lillian Jeffery
Father – Frank Jessome; Maiden name of mother – Isabel Pero (both born NS)
Informant – Lillian Jessome, wife

The Marriage record of Isabella Pero and Frank Jessome in 1909 is also available at the above site.
Also the death certificate of Frank Jessome who also died young at the age of 39 from an accident in the mines. You can probably find many more records that pertain to this family with a bit of searching
The 1901 and 1911 Canadian Census is available free at
www.automatedgenealogy.ca
Remember to be a bit creative with your searches. For instance Frank is listed as Francis on the 1901 Census and Jessome can be spelled several different ways.

Thank you for the information .. I did have a bit of this but a new name for me is Corbett.. cool off on another search lol. I do really appreciate it .. I really wish I could find someone still alive that knew Bernard or of him. him. Like I said though he was so yong when he died and years ago that I hardly think its possible. I have put like a litle movie in my head about how things happened back then. That brings me a little more comfort.

Once again Thank you
All information helps and I more than appreciate it. Anything I can do to help just hollar!!

Thank you very much.

I did not know about the automated geneaology one. Im going to look right now.
I was saying in my other reply post that I have kinda built a little movie in my mind of how things were back then for my grandma.. Ill share a little if you feel like reading with the information you gave me.
My grandma Lillian ended up with Bernard (i have no proof of marriage)
They had Yvonne Agnes Jessome March 1942
Lillians mom died Oct 1943
They had my mom Sheila Jan 1944
Bernard worked coal mines.. not sure where/what one
Bernard stepped on nail May 15 1944
Bernard sick until death Nov 1944
Yvonne died of menengitis of the hip 1945
If you look at the dates .. it all happened so close .. Im surprised my grandma was around for me to spend time with her. It really is sad.
Anyhow sorry I just really wanted to share that seeing as you helped me thus far.
And now you say that Frank died young too .. well back to work I have more of the story to piece together.

I really appreciate it Thank you and if there is any favor I can do in return just let me know.

My mother was Barbara Patricia Jessome, who married Mark Edward Corbett. Her dad was Joseph P. Jessome, married to Jennie MacSween.

Mom had four brothers, William, Louis, Chalmers and Austin. They are all dead now, Austin having died 3 or 4 years ago.

Grampie had brothers who lived in the Edmunston NB area but Grampie and my uncles all lived in Florence growing up.

Mom died in Amherst in 1994. Austin lived in Sydney for approx. 35 years until his death but prior was an officer in the Canadian Armed Forces and was stationed in Edmonton, Alberta for a time.

I still have several cousins in the Cape Breton area but I moved from Sydney 40 years ago somI have lost touch.

Would appreciate info you may have learned.

Story has it that Jessome is a variation of Jesseau or Jesso from Newfoundland, who were disowned for marrying Aboriginals.

Imwas never able to verify that but I believe it as Grampie definitely had native features, although Mom vehemently denied it. In her day that would have been considered a disgrace.

Hope this helps

Greetings - Patricia was my aunt. My father was William. I grew up in Florence. Is this my cousin who I enjoyed hanging out with on Townsend Street? Would be great to hear from you!
