Don was a well liked sportscaster in the Boston area for many year. His son followed him into the profession. I am seeking his Antigonish connections. My relatives who descended from Angus Mhor Gillis, used to say he was related. Any specific connections..

Hi,

My name is Catherine Gillis and Don Gillis was my uncle and godfather. My father Hugh Gillis is his younger brother. Donald was born in Glen Alpine Aug 1, 1922 and passed away in April of this year. His parents (my grandparents) were Andrew Joseph Gillis (b 1893 d 1971) and Catherine Gillis (b 1893 d 1988)- from Antigonish. They moved to New Bedford, MA in the 1920s which is where Donald grew up and my father was born.

We have traced his lineage back to Donald "Oban" Gillis who came to NS on board the ship The Dove of Aberdeen in 1801. Stephen Gillis' site has a great document you can download (>100 pages) which traces the descendants of Oban. I recommend you download it

Best,

Catherine M. Gillis

Thank you so much for your clarification. being a first generation American with all my roots in Nova Scotia, all I ever heard of was stories of Antigonish, and that strange newspaper, "The Casket". My connections with the area were helped greatly by "Ddrummer on Foot", which finally enabled me to find information on my grandmother who died when my father was 12. She was the Gillis connection I knew nothing about....

This link does not work. Does anyone know how to find this family page?

It seems to have vanished. Under normal circumstances, I'd suggest going to the Internet Archive (http://archive.org/). However, I checked there, and that specific page isn't archived. Much of the site is, however, and you can see what's available at:
