I am searching for ANY information on a John Grant (jr) born in Lawrencetown in 1838, married a Samantha (Semanthe) Marshall in 1864, they had 2 children Norman and Florence, and apparently died in 1872, a train accident? This is my family's name and we can not find any info further than this, all we know is that he was a junior based on his grave stone, he is buried in the Whitman-Cunningham cemetery in South Williamston NS. There is no info on their marriage certificate, nor can I find any birth or death information. PLEASE HELP! (attachments are John's grave, and Samantha)

See www.hhennigar.ca for some additional information, especially on Samantha Marshall and her marriage to John Grant.

Thank you, unfortunately I've seen that many times, lol, still nothing on his parents though, that's what I need, much appreciated though :) I guess you'll have to add Norman on there as their child too :)

Hi, I am not sure if this is the one you are looking for but in the 1871 census records living in Annapolis County a John Grant b. 1807 and Barbery(?) Grant b. 1810 with son Robert.

In 1881 census, John Grant was a widower living with his daughter Barbara who was married to an Ebenezer Marshall. I am wondering if Eben could be a brother to your Semantha? I believe his father is listed as Enoch Marshall on their marriage record.

Yup I've got all that info, thank you though, I still want to be 100% sure that that John and Barbary(?) are his parents, my latest info suggest John Jr died of consumption, and yes that Eben is Samantha's brother.
Thank you
Megan

Hi Megan, i am also from this family line and have done some research into this and strongly feel however no positive proof yet that John and Barbara Grant buried at Nictaux Community Centre are John Jr's parents. I can go up the line from there also. If you can contact me via e-mail dgrantjr@cogeco.ca i can send you what i have. Thanks.

Hello Distant Cousin DOUG!!!
Wow second distant cousin to contact me today on message boards, I feel the genealogical stars aligning ;) I wholeheartedly agree with you on that fact about Barbara w/o Ebenezer Marshall b/o Samantha is John's sister! I also saw the 1911 census that has her living with John William Grant Norman's son) listed as an aunt!!! Just to let you know I also popped down to the Archives in Halifax on Saturday, and had a chance to view the long forms of the marriage, not just what you can see online, hoping that there would be something, anything, but no, no parents names for either of them, and Ebenezer signed for Samantha. Thank you SO much for the post, and also thank you for tracking down his gravestone, I saw it on the fb group for the family reunion awhile back. I'm horrible with remembering to email but hopefully will get on it soon, remember to check your junkmail!

Megan
