On their marriage record, it was most certainly not spelled that way, it says "Sarah Raily and Andrew White." The birth records of her siblings spell the name variously as Ralley, Realy, and Rayley.

Sarah's brother Major adopted the Raleigh spelling later in life, none of her other siblings used it. It might have been a mistake on his part, or it could have been an affectation. No way to know for sure.

Sarah's mother was not Joanna Sprague, she was Susanna Joyner, daughter of Edward Joyner. Their marriage records lists "Phillip Ralley and Susanna Joyner."
