I'm looking for information on the Domalain family. My mother, Philomena Domalain, was born in Brent's Cove, Newfoundland, which is on White Bay, October 8, 1930, to Leo & Elizabeth (Butler) Domalain. She had brothers, Jack, Michael, and Aloysius, and sisters, Bridget, Katherine, Theresa, Louise, and Mary.

Hubert Osmond, was born Nov 13 1909 in White Bay, in small little place called "The Beaches". He has 3 brothers and 1 sister.

Hubert is the son of James & Patience Osmond. His father from Moretons Harbour and his mother Patience from L'anse aux Meadows. Hubert himself has 13 children.

Thanks for this info. I also have found that the Sacrey name originated from the Channel Islands. From what I can tell, it looks like there were 3 Sacrey brothers who came from the Islands and settled in the Harbour Grace area. Their names were Zacharias (m. Elizabeth ?), Peter (m.Ann ?), and Stephen (m. Rebecca Sharpe). The info I have shows their children being born in Bryant's Cove, however, by the 1921 census, there are no Sacrey's listed as living there. So I am unsure how accurate this really is. If anyone can verify or disprove any of this, I would love to read your input.

Zacharias' son Thomas was the one who moved and settled in Northeast Pacquet (just called "Pacquet" today). The Sacrey name is still very common in this area, and as far as I can tell, every Sacrey in the area today is a descendant of Thomas.

An Anglicization of the surname of France and Jersey (Channel Islands) Sacre, that is Consacre - consecrated, a nickname for Priest. (Douzat)
in Nfld:
Family tradition: two sacre brothers from Germany (Channel Islands) came to Harbour Grace; one brother settled there and the other moved to Twillingate Island. The surname was later spelled Sacrey (MUN folklore). Early instances: Thomas Sacrey of Leading Tickles, 1850, of Black Island (Twillingate District) 1851 (DPHW 86) 1867. I have a connection to this family as well. Henry Hynes, sister Mary Jane Hynes married to Jane Sacreys brother William Sacrey.

My great grandmother is Druscilla Hynes. A sister to both Henry and Mary Jane. Mary Jane remarried after Williams' death to Joseph Raison.

I dont have anything back further on Theresa at this time, and for her husband Thomas all I know are his parents names are Zacharius and Elizabeth Sacrey.

2 of the SAcrey children married into my Hines/Hynes family.

I am working on this family as well.

I am also under the impression that William died young, as his wife Mary Jane Haines/Hynes remarried 4 years later to Joseph Raison/Rason.

The George Sacrey living with the Raison family in the Coney Arm census is a son of Mrs. Raison from her first marriage.

Jane Hynes was a sister to Druscilla Hynes.

I have most of the Coney Arm families all sortted out.

William Sacreys sister Jane, also married a Hynes. Married Henry Hynes/Haines. A brother to Mary Jane Hynes

The only connection I can give you is that John Gale of White Bay was born at Bridport 25 Oct 1770. The west coast Gale's are associated with Symondsbury. Back then, Bridport and Symondsbury were villages about 2km apart. Today, Symondsbury is part of larger Bridport. There is speculation that John of White Bay and James of Codroy were sons of John and Mary (Dodge) Gale who were married in 1768 and who evemntually settled and died in western Newfoundland.

I have not seen it, but according to Kirk Butt, the will of Edward Gale, son of John and Mary and brother to James Gale, lists his parents origin and leaves bequests to his siblings. I do not think he left anything to a brother John. However, I am not sure sure if the siblings named in Edward's will comprise an all inclusive list of his siblings.

Also, In the early days of the Internet there was an article relating to the history of the Codroy area in which it was reported that in his old age James Gale went to White Bay to visit his older brother, John. I do not know why, but this statement was edited out of later versions of the same history. In my opinion, it appears too specific to be something that someone just made up.

My older notes indicate that James Gale was born c1776 in Bridport, but unfortunately I did not reference the source of this information.

The Gale's from Codroy, South Branch, Robinson's & Picadilly are all the same Gale's. The ones we can't connect are the Gale's of Hampden.
