Looking for information in the coachman's cove area for William Breen (m. Anne Warrick)b 1834. Their children inc my gg grandmother Bridget Breen. Also for Michael Walsh (maybe the first in family to come to CC.) All I know is he may be the father of my gg grandfather Joseph Walsh(m. Elizabeth Downey). Any info on these families would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Karen~ I think your ancestor on the Breen side is one Sylvester Breen. According to NGB’s “Fishermen of Notre Dame Bay 1700-1900”, Sylvester Brian (Breen) was married and living at Fogo in 1823. The list also notes that Sylvester Breen 1 was from the old country, specifically Wexford County, Ireland. My best friends growing up were Breen's in Canada Harbour. (Some of them are now living in Baie Verte where they resettled.) Sylvester was an unusual name appearing several times in their older family and I note also it appeared in Coachman's Cove. With this unusual name occurring in different places, it is too much of a coincidence to believe that these are not descendants of Sylvester from Wexford County. The Breen's of Canada Harbour had a sister Agnes, I believe, who married a Barrett of Fleur de Lys...so there was association. Hope this is helpful. John

Thank you for your info. I believe I know of the Barrett family that you are speaking of and will try to follow up. This is the trail I am searching. My information has been from various sources and in fact I have felt that I was "missing" a generation. I know my ancestor had a brother Sylvestor and I am sure as you have indicated that name came from family lines. I appreciate your lead.

Hi~yes this is the Agnes I referred to in previous thread. She was dtr of Joseph Breen and Elizabeth (Betsy) Reeves from Canada Hr. Besides the 5 sons living, I believe they had one who drowned. I always heard the story how his father tore large trees out of place in an effort to get out to him.
They are the same Barret's connected to the Ballot's of Canada Hr. I have good reason to believe their origins were Ship Cove near Port Rexton as the Brennox (Brennock's/Brennick's) were also from there and Richard Ballott of Can Hr and John Brennock of Can Hr had adjoining lands/premises and were married to sisters (sisters of Betsey Reeves Breen by the way!) Hope this helpful in making the connections. JohnE

I don't I have made a connection to my tree on this string, but with FDL and Walsh floating, I thought I would ask.
My Gparents Patrick Walsh b.1878 m. Mary May Lewis b. 1891 were born in FDL (1921 census) My mother is one of their 9 children.i) Veronica m. Newman ii)Mary iii)Margret m. Harvey iv) Kathleen m. Tobin? v)Florence m. Dibble vi)Genevieve m. Power vii)Elizabeth viii)John "Jack"Patrick ix)Geraldine (I believe still in FDL at least part of the year) My mother was Genevieve Walsh Power.
If you have any information on the siblings that stayed in NL and their children I would be thrilled. I have kept in touch with Veronica, Margaret, and Florence until their deaths and are still in contact with their children.

Hi Joanne

I noticed your reply to the Nfld/Lab Rootsweb about your Walsh/Breen/Downey line. My line is the Flynn's from St. John's. I have noticed on many Baptismal's and Marriage's that the sponsors were often Walsh's and Breen's.

Just wondering if you might have any Flynn's in your family or were any Flynn's listed as sponsors??

Many thanks.
