Nicholas Churchill - Ochre Pit Cove, Newfoundland...
Hope someone can help us solve a mystery. My husband's ancestor, Samuel Churchill, evidently had (1) a brother, Nicholas, born 1725 in Devon, England and moved, we think, to Ochre Pit Cove as did Samuel,(2) a son, Nicholas, born around 1750 in Ochre Pit Cove, and (3) a grandson, Nicholas. We know what happened with Samuel but the 3 Nicholas Churchills are a mystery to some of us. We know Nicholas (the son of Samuel) moved to St. John's for awhile in the early 1800s after his father died. He rented the land in Ochre Pit Cove to his sister, Elizabeth's, husband Richard Halfyard. We don't know who he married but recently read that he had two children. His daughter, Elizabeth Churchill never married and died in Devon, England in 1867. We read that this Elizabeth had a brother, Nicholas, who she outlived. As she willed her small estate to her cousin, John Luscombe in England, we don't if her brother married, had children and/or also moved to England, too. Whether any of the three Nicholas Churchills moved to England we don't know. Possible descendants are trying to find out this and I am quite curious as to where all three went. Could anyone help us?

Re: Nicholas Churchill - Ochre Pit Cove, Newfoundland...
I am from Ochre Pit Cove, Newfoundland. I can trace back my family tree to Clairmond Halfyard, the daughter of Elizabeth Churchill. Apparently, she was the daughter of Nicholas Churchill who was the son of John Churchill. John Churchill apparently was born in England about 1700 in the Devon area.
If you can confirm this information I would appreciate it.

Interseting-- I have an ancestor Elizabeth Skinner, who married a Nicholas Churchill Parsons on Dec 05, 1871 in O.P.C. Coincidence, I guess.

Re: Nicholas Churchill - Ochre Pit Cove, Newfoundland...
My husband's grandmother was a Parsons born in Ochre Pit Cove in the late 1870s but her father was John Parsons. Did they stay there or emigrate? There is a site for Ochre Pit COve graves that is online. Have you seen it?

Re: Nicholas Churchill - Ochre Pit Cove, Newfoundland...
I've just discovered that Samuel Halfyard from Ochre Cove is my GGG-grandfather. I would be interested in any information. I can't find anything before 1817 or after the late 1800's.
Thanks

Re: Nicholas Churchill - Ochre Pit Cove, Newfoundland...
I have a record of the Churchills from Samuel, father of Nicholas, Elizabeth and Clairmond. This information was pasted to me from my late mom-in-law. It is said that the Wheelers did the research and eventually claimed the inheritance of Nicholas Churchill in the late 1950s or early 60s. I can send you what I have if you would like.
