In regard to my Point Verde Greenes(Placentia area),new information say they may have been here since early 1600s,possibly a fisherman arriving from New England in 1600s,he possibly descended from a John Green arrivinf in New England, from England, about 1610. Family folklore says a Green(e) fisherman,Protestant, sailed into Placentia Bay in French times, before 1695 census, and eventually married daughter of a French officer at Plaisance (children raised RC),and a Greene family appears in French census of 1695,I am told. This older Green(e) man,who married the French girl, may have had a previous Protestant family elsewhere in Nfld. Does anyone have any family history like this? I so far have 61 pages on Point Verde Greenes and looking for even the smallest bit extra.Thanks.Ward. wardgreene@hotmail.com

Just generally, for everyone, I now have about 235 pages on Point Verde Greenes,Placentia area. Always looking for connections to other people, whether in Nfld. or other countries.
Also Corbin...my ancestor John Green(son of Michael) married the Widow Corbin in 1778 in Placentia. Or any Placentia/Argentia(then known as Little Placentia) connection between Green/Greene and families named Power,Larkin,as well as Corbin. I am wondering what was the maiden name of Widow Corbin. Thanks...Ward. wardgreene@hotmail.com

Do you have information on Mary Ann Green who married John Riley?
John Reillay married Mary Anne Green 10/25/1840 at the parish church in Argentia. They had a son Robert Anthony Riley born in Jan 1845 in the Placentia area. They went to Charlottetown, PEI, where they had children Agnes (1854), Theresa (~1857), and Patrick (1859). They eventually ended up in Pictou, NS, where they appear in the 1871 and 1881 censuses. John was born ~1811 in Newfoundland and gave his ethnicity as Irish. Mary Anne was born ~1814 in Newfoundland and gave her ethnicity as English. Robert Anthony went to Massachusetts and was married twice and had a few children by his first wife.
I don't know where these people fit in, but I would guess that Mary Ann is related somehow to your Greenes. I wonder if Mary Ann might have been the daughter of Robert Greene based on the fact that she had a son named Robert. Then again, the Greenes didn't seem to be very consistent about following naming conventions anyway.
I also assume that they must have had more than four children, but I don't know who they would have been.

Hi.....I had a good look in my Greenes files, and also looked at www.redislandnf to see the marriage records. I see in the list a lot of ones I know to be my Green(e)s.....the "e" came and went and came again.....but don't know ab out Mary Anne Greene. It is true that Robert has b een a traditional n ame in my Green(es, going back hundreds of years and still in common use.....so that is a clue indeed. On the other hand, there were also Greens and Greenes in the Argentia records who were from nearby Red Island and Isle aux Valen (or Isle Valen). I've tried for a long time but have not been able to find out if all these are related to Point Verde Greenes.
We also have lots of Greene-O'Reilley marriages in our Point Verde Greenes....however,currently that's the best I can do,which isn't mujch. If somehow you can find a link to Point Verde Greenes, then I have about 235 pages of relatives for you.
