Hi Everyone: I have gathering my documentation for a few months. I have connected myself to Luc Benoit from Margaree, N.S. who married Helen Le Blanc and lived in Stephenville.
I an looking for information on an ancestor : Anne l'Official . I do know that she was a full blooded M'k Maq , she married Francois - the first Benoit to settle in Newfoundland-on 20 June 1790 at Sandy Point, Nfld in the 1790's. He was born 1763 in Iles Malouines. He died after 1839 in Bay St. George, Nfld.. Ann L'Official's parents were: Henri l'Official and Isabelle [Nannette] Shegone.
I believe that she connects to me through Milli (Millicent Eunice Chaisson), my grandmother. I have documentation so far that shows that: Milli's parents were Josephine and Lawrence Chaisson(maiden name Chiasson), Lawrence's father was Naziree Chaisson, I think. I know that Josephine's parents were: Julian Chaisson and Jane (Jenny) Benoit. Is Jane a descendant (daughter or granddaughter) of Ann L' Official, I am trying to find out?
I would welcome any help, hints or direction.
Thanks, Jasen

Jean Claude Camus married Marie L"official Sept. 24, 1799 in Quebec. A descendant is Wm.(Bill) Vincent of Stephenville, Nf. He might have some info to give you. IRB

Did he have a son named Luc who married a Josephine Gaudet

Hi: I have since found the answers to my original inquiry. As for Francois Benoit having a son named Luc- no, not that I am aware of. I have 14 children listed for Francois Benoit and Anne L'Official and no Luc. There is a Louis who married Ursula Marche.

Jasen: My GGG Grandparents are Anne L'Official & Francois Benoit and I can't seem to find a Jane Benoit. My link is through Clarissa Benoit

I am a direct descendant of Benoit. My mother was a Benoit.I have a complete listing of Benoit going back to early 1600 when Martin Benoit came from France on the good ship L'orange and married one of the 5 ladies on the ship. They had 11 children of which Francois was a descendant.I dont have a Luc but as you said there was a Louis who could have been called Luc.Let me know if I can help.

Hi, I see that you and I are related. I am related to Luc and Helene Benoit. Helene was a LeBlanc and a cousin of my own LeBlancs. Plus Helene and Luc's son Jean Constant married Theodora LeBlanc(another cousin) and last but not least,Matilda d/o Jean Constant and Theodora married my great great grandfather Henri Duffenies(Duffney/Duffenais). Obviously also related through the Jean Dauphinee and Mary Ann LeJeune. Small world if you don't mind my saying!
P.S. I also have other Benoits in my line....would you mind sharing some information?

Hello, In reference to this "Shegone"
Their son, Francois .Benoist(first Benoit in NF) b:1764 at Ile Malouines, Falklnd Ilands, die in Bay St. George,NF-married Anne .L`Official daughter of Henri L`Official & Isabelle Cheyo(M'k Maq)- (english name -Elizabeth. Shegone).Marriage date:July:20,1790 It will be nigh on impossible to find conclusive proof, but I think the name is really Sigogne as in the Jesuit Relations where this is found:
Membeltoujij. Membertoucoichis (called Judas), eldest son of Membertou, over sixty years old, also baptized; and named Louis, by Monsieur de Biencour, after Monsieur the Dauphin. One of the wives of Louis, Monsieur de Jouï sponsor in the name of Mme. de Sigogne, was named after her.
Cheers Phil
