I would like to know if anyone has information about the Harris family of Trinity Bay. My grandmother's name was Lydia (nee Cummings) and my grandfather's name was John Harris. They emigrated to Canada (before 1949) and settled in Montreal). I have been successful in tracking down my father's side of the family - now I would like to make contact with anyone who might know about the Harris family (my mother's side). My mother's name was Charlotte. My grandmother and grandfather had 12 children, two died quite young. I thank you in advance for your help. This bulletin board is amazing! Bette

Re Lydia Cummings. My mother was Beatrice Harris. Lydia was my great aunt.

Mom's parents were both Harris' her father was Charles Harris married to Emily Jane Harris. Charles brother John was married to Lydia other brothers and sisters were:

Ambrose, Rebecca, Frank,Laura and Sam.

I have other info as well but cannot verify it so I am holding back. Charles father was William Harris

You can contact me and maybe we can fill in the gaps.

I too am connected to the Harris family of Trinity Bay. My grandmother was Olive Gertrude Harris and her parents were Arthur John Harris (b. 1880) and Druscilla Green. Arthur had a brother named William. I wonder if this might be the same William? Arthur and William's parents were Jacob Harris and Elizabeth Moores. Let me know if any of this sounds familiar and I may be able to fill in some gaps.

Thanks so much for the information. Sorry about the delay. My computer was down for awhile. I can't wait to talk to you further. This "reply" box is covering up your name, but I think I am talking to Brenda. Please forgive if I am mistaken. I look forward to conversing with you by email.

Sincerely - Bette Hawley

Dear Valerie,

Thanks for your message on the bulletin board re the Harris family. My computer was down for quite some time and it was quite a pleasant surprise for me to receive two messages from the bulletin board. At this point I don't know if there is a connection (but there has to be, right?). This is all new to me, but if you can read the message to me from Brenda, there is a William mentioned. I've taken your message down in long-hand, but haven't yet digested the information. Let's keep in touch and see if we can decipher all the ancestor's names. Thanks again.

Sincerely - Bette Hawley

Hi Betty,

It was great to hear from you. If this is indeed the same William Harris, I have a picture of his original barn. It is still standing in the original spot and is still in use by another family. A part of his original house still stands as well but it was cut down from a 2-story to a single level. His brother Arthur's house has changed very little and is now owned by a Pynn family there. I visited there with my father a year and a half ago and he couldn't believe his grandparents' house was still there just as he remembered it. As Dad is now 57, the house would be about 100 years old! I hope we make a connection!

Valerie: I'm researching PYNNs and your message of Jan. 2002 mentioned your grandfather's former home is now owned by PYNNs. Would you have any further information such as the first name and/or an address I could write to? I would appreciate it very much. Thank you. Celia Ewald

Hi there - I've been to this bulletin board before using another email address. I am presently using my husband's address which varies slightly from mine. I've just been informed by my uncle that my great-grandmother was a Pynn. Her first name was Dorcus, maiden name was 'Pynn'. Her son was my grandfather, John Harris. There seems to be a Beothuk connection and this is particularly fascinating to me. I would much appreciate hearing from you if you can enlighten me in this regard. Sincerely, Bette Hawley

Hi Bette: Yes, I have a Dorcas Pynn married to Samuel Harris on 20 Nov 1873. Dorcas was b. 25 May 1852. Her parents were Jane Harris and Henry Pynn. I'm not sure where she is in my family line but she shows up in my Family Origins as one of my relatives. I'm always happy to have a new "link." Keep in touch. Celia
