I've been trying, with little success to trace the Locke side of my family. I've located from the Hants Harbour records a William and a David Lock, born to David and Ann lock. This I believe to be my family. Would anyone have any further information on these or any other Lock? (Locke) I am also tracing the Hiscock family and can trace them back to England around the 1600's, I believe one or more brothers left their new home (Trinity North) to settle in Trinity South. Would anyone have any information on any Hiscock that came to the south side of Trinity Bay from the North Side?

Are you sure it was Bishops Cove.....I'm from the area, Spaniards Bay to be exact, and since I have been working on my ancestry which dates back to the 1690s I know that all Bread and Cheese Cove, Coopers Head, Spoon Cove, Northern Cove, were the only names I have come across which is where the now Bishops Cove exists?

Good Morning. My source for the information was submitted by Dave Gosse and Vincent G Elliott. It can be found at www.huronweb.com/genweb/nfdata/065/surnames/gosse.htm. It had Thomas Gosse married to Susanna Locke, emigrated to NFLD c1726, settled at Bishops Cove, formally known as Bread and Cheese. They had four children, Thomas, Anne, Richard and Robert all born in Bridport. As my branch of the family is long removed from the area, early 1900's I welcome any information regarding anything pertaining to the family. Please stay in touch.

Brian I see that you knew Bishops Cove was formerly Bread and Cheese Cove. I thought I had another Bishops Cove, which meant maybe another possibility to do my research......Just like there are more than one Spaniards Bay, more than one Riverhead communities, and even more than one Harbour Graces...but you get the picture. There was a Spaniards Bay in Trinity Bay, what is prsently Sydney Nova Scotia, was Baie d'Espagnol (Spaniards Bay) for the same time period. There is Riverhead-Harbour Grace, Riverhead in St, Johns, and another in SMB. But you get the picture. In essence I though I had another lead because I am looking for information on a Brazil relative that married a Barrett in 1824 who I believe originated from Bishops Cove. It was a SArah Barrett married to a William Brassil June 10, 1824. You wouldnt know of the Sarah, or if there was a connection between Gosse family and Barrett family would you? I recall seeing a Richard Goss as a witness for different christenings and marriages for that time frame!

Brian I might add surnames Locke, Hiscock, Sheppard, and Peddle are direct ancestors of mine.

Saw your message posted and not sure if I am a link but will tell you what I know re Gosse. My Grandmother, Catherine Brazil of Spaniards Bay, was the daughter of Diana Vokey and Michael Brazil. Diana was the daughter of Aaron Vokey and Jane Gosse of Spaniards Bay. Jane Gosse was the daughter of John Gosse and Elizabeth Collins. They were married on January 23, 1806.
