MORAN//MURRIN/MURRANT & FITZGERALD Family Research - Newfoundland & Nova Scotia connections???
My query is regarding my GrGrandmother, Ann - her surname is spelled as MORAN on her daughter's bapt. cert. & then spelled as MURRIN on her daughter's marr. cert. Her daughter/my GrGrandmother Helen "Nellie" Fitzgerald m. 1924 in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia to my Grandfather, John Whelan of Colliers, NL.

From the info I've been able to obtain, my GrGrandparents - Ann m. Lawrence Fitzgerald (he was b. abt. 1882 from Small Point/Kingston, Bay de Verde, Newfoundland). GrGrandfather Lawrence had a sister that married a "Shea" from Pouch Cove (or area) and this would be how my GrGrandparents met. Since my Grandmother was born in 1904, I'm thinking that their time of marriage would be abt 1900 - 1904.

I have no other info on my GrGrandmother, Ann - perhaps b. abt. 1880; m. abt. 1900 - 1904. Her daughter/my Grandmother's m. cert. lists her place of birth as New Aberdeen, Nova Scotia and there's a son/my GrUncle Lawrence, b. 1907 St. John's, Nfld as listed on his m. cert. 1931.......................I recently was contacted with new info. regarding my GrGrandparents, Lawrence FITZGERALD & Ann (*MORAN/MURRIN) - *these are the spellings as recorded on their daughter/my Grandmother's bapt. record (MORAN) & marr. cert. (MURRIN)....the new details I was sent is as follows: Saint John's Marriages>>Date: August 9,1903>>Place: Pouch Cove, Nfld.>>Name and surname: Lawrence FITZGERALD>>Age: 25>>Condition: Bachelor>>Occupation: Laborer>>Religion: Roman Catholic>>Residence: Northern Bay>>>>>>Name and surname: Ann MURRANT>>Age: 24>>Condition: Spinster>>Religion: Roman Catholic>>Residence: Pouch Cove, Nfld.>>Witnesses: John SHEA and Catherine MURRANT.

This is the first bit of info regarding my GrGrandparents marriage & another spelling of my GrGrandmother's last name, although I'm still not sure if this is them. My GrGrandfather Lawrence was b. 1882, the age listed here is 25 which would be b. yr. as 1878??

I'm hoping to have contact with other member(s) who may be related or have information pertaining to these individuals.

Regards, :)

Lisa,

Here is a good possibility for the marriage of your great grandparents Thomas Hinds and Annie.

Dec 28 1899
Change Islands

Thomas HIND 23 bach fishing CE Change Islands
Annie SNOW 20 spin n/g CE Change Islands
witness: John Oke, Stanley Jeans

Based on Annies information of death you gave me, died April 1909 age 28, it puts her birth c1881. This Annie was born c.1879 in Change Islands. Not far off at all.

Also this is around the approx time frame of your grandfather Evelyn Albert Hynes being born. I have c1897 in Fogo, by census records. But from experience census records are frequently off years, sometimes quite a bit.

Also if you didnt already know, the burial for Annie Hinds, took place in Change Islands.

Also in McAlpine's 1904 Directory
Fogo District for CHANGE ISLANDS
there are only 2 Thomas Hinds listed, one a Jr of father Thomas, and Thomas Sr a son of George.

So it would appear (if this is the correct family) That Thomas H. Hinds (m:Annie Snow) was the son of Thomas Hinds, also a fisherman. Thomas Sr, a son of George Hinds.

HINDS Thos jr, of T fisherman
HINDS Thos sr, of Geo fisherman

the only other 2 HINDS listed in this directory are

HINDS John fisherman
HINDS Emanuel fisherman

Here is the 1928 Voters List for Change Islands.
Requirements to vote were males 21+, females 25+

HINDS Thomas H. Payne's Cove (your g grandfather?)
HINDS Letta (sic) B. Payne's Cove
HINDS Arthur D. Payne's Cove
HINDS John Payne's Cove
HINDS Edmund Payne's Cove
HINDS Rhoda Payne's Cove
HINDS Evelyn Fox Head Cove (your grandfather)
HINDS Elsie Fox Head Cove (your grandmother)
HINDS Frank Morey's Hr

This fits the time line, for Thomas H. Hinds, your great grandfather.

Passenger Thomas H Hinds
Arrived aboard the Florizel on February 8, 1917
Batch Number: P51019-0
Packet Number:
Record Number:
Page Ref. I will attach image. ( Also fitting that he list his father as nearest closest relative, as this was in 1917, when we know his wife Annie had already died.)

According to Stonepics index,
NF029 : CHI05 HYNES, Thomas H (1949) - 1 photo
This could be Thomas H Hinds, who married Annie.
Hi there,

Dec 22 1919
St. Bride's
DOHEY John William
Rom Cath died age 45
St. Bride's St. Bride's

September 10 1920
St. Bride's ....
DOHEY Mary Ellen
Rom Cath died age 43 Branch St. Bride's

William John Dohey as we can see from the death reccord was born c.1874 in St Bride's.

His wife who died within the year was born c1877 in Branch, NL. So this all seems to line up as your family.

This post popped up in my search
http://boards.ancestry.ca/thread.aspx?mv=flat&m=3&p=...

I noticed it has a Mary Ellen O'Rourke born to father Bartholomew O'Rourke. (who married Anne Roche) The date of Mary Ellens birth of 1874, is not too far off her death record stating 1877.

I'm not sure of who went where when the parents died, but thought these were worth at least noting, just in case

1921 Census Branch, NL

39 39
Charles POWER M Head Married 1885 May 36 Branch
Rosie POWER F Wife Married 1886 Oct 34 Branch
Annie POWER F Daug	Single 1914 Nov 6 Branch
Leo POWER M Son Single 1916 Sept 4 Branch
Ida POWER F Dau	Single 1918 Sept 2 Branch
Kevin POWER M Son Single 1920 Oct 10m Branch
Laura DOHEY F Neice Single 1909 July 12 St. Brides

53 53
Thomas NASH M Head Married 1859 Jan 62 Branch
Ellen NASH F Wife Married 1867 Feb 54 Hr Grace
Michael NASH M Son Single 1890 April 31 Branch
John T.
I have come across recent information that expands the Warfield family. This is from notes from a daughter of Thomas Murray Warfield, Stella Warfield Greene. She listed the brothers of Thomas as Edward (or Edwin), Hubert, Jacob (or Jacob Brown Warfield), William H, and Theodore. All appear to have been born in Newfoundland, in the general area of St. John's and all but 2 ended up moving to either Worcester or the Boston, Massachusetts area. The 2 brothers that remained in Newfoundland were Hubert and Edwin. I have attached information to my tree.
Steve

My gg grandparents Patrick O'Toole and Susannah Squires had three sons Jeremiah O'Toole(b.1903), Walter O'Toole(b.1905), James O'Toole(b.1908) and one daughter Emily O'Toole(b.1904). They were all from St. John's. I know that Patrick O'Toole died in 1910. He was approx 40 years old when he died so he was born around 1870. I do not know if he had any siblings. It is possible that his parents were Jeremiah and Catherine O'Toole who had one time lived on 261 Water St West. Will certainly appreciate any confirmation of this and any additional information.

For birth certificate from Conne River, you should call Vital Statistics in St John's, birth records, if you have the birthdate for Joseph they will be able to send you a copy of his birth certificate, you would have to know his parents name also. It costs $20.00 for the certificate. I went to Corner Brook for the Park family certificates but just as easy to go through St John's as they are the only ones that can send out the certificates. It usually takes about 2 weeks to get it. Hope this helps.
Our Saunders come from Fortune, Grand Bank area and moved around 1918 to Cox's Cove, Bay of Islands.

HI! Looking for information or to connect and share information regarding my Husband's 2nd great grandfather.

Edward Corbett was born in St. John's, Newfoundland in October 1855/1856. He may be the son of Patrick Corbett. Edward married Mary Barnes/Barns (birth and parents unknown), possibily at St. Patrick's RC Church in St. John's West. They were the parents of 6 children, 5 of whom were born in St. John's and baptised at St. Patrick's : Elisabeth, Robert, Mary, Edith, and Ann. They had a 6th child Sarah that was born in Massachusetts but was still born. They immigrated to the Boston area around 1889.

Any help or suggestions or information would be greatly appreciated. Virtually nothing is known about this part of my Husband's family.

Thank you,
Melissa Patterson Allen
