My gg grandparents Patrick O'Toole and Susannah Squires had three sons Jeremiah O'Toole(b.1903), Walter O'Toole(b.1905), James O'Toole(b.1908) and one daughter Emily O'Toole(b.1904). They were all from St. John's. I know that Patrick O'Toole died in 1910. He was approx 40 years old when he died so he was born around 1870. I do not know if he had any siblings. It is possible that his parents were Jeremiah and Catherine O'Toole who had one time lived on 261 Water St West. Will certainly appreciate any confirmation of this and any additional information.

Hi Gregb74, I was given a book some years ago titled "Business Letters For Dictation". copyright:1924. I've been curious about the name(s) written in the book. In the front as well as the back is the following:
Mr. James O'Toole c/o SP Cullen & Company 250 Water Street.
Maybe this once belonged to your ancester?? There are two other names written in the book... Miss Florence O'Neill and Miss Francis Bennett.

Hi Paulette, Great to hear from you! The James O'Toole that owned that book was one of three possibilities: James(b.1908) Hotel Manager, James(b.1882) Shoemaker and later Grocer, or James(b.1869) Caretaker. They are all part of my family. They were my grandfather's brother, cousin and uncle !!! I do not recognize the other two names but I will do some digging. Did the person who gave you this book acquire it in St. John's, Newfoundland? Greg

Hi Greg, That's great. I was given this book after my Grandparents passed away. It was in their house on Random Island. I'll have to double check with my father as he was once a one-room school teacher, and it could have been a teaching tool for him.....That's pretty interesting that this book once belonged to a family member of yours.
I also did some digging on the other two names. One turns out to be very interesting. A Katherine Anne McManus did a thesis paper on Florence O'Neill. It's very long, but I've read enough of it to think that this is the same person whose name is in this book. It's online if you want to google both names together.
I'll follow up with my father when he's back in town to see if he remembers any of the names or more information on the book, and I will let you know. It was given to me a few years ago now and can't remember all the details....if there were any...
Kind regards, Paulette
