MORAN/MURRANT/MURRIN?? from Pouch Cove, Newfoundland

Hello...I recently was contacted with new info. regarding my GrGrandparents, Lawrence FITZGERALD & Ann (*MORAN/MURRIN) - *these are the spellings as recorded on their daughter/my Grandmother's bapt. record (MORAN) & marr. cert. (MURRIN)....the new details I was sent is as follows: Saint John's Marriages>>Date: August 9,1903>>Place: Pouch Cove, Nfld.>>Name and surname: Lawrence FITZGERALD>>Age: 25>>Condition: Bachelor>>Occupation: Laborer>>Religion: Roman Catholic>>Residence: Northern Bay>>>>>>Name and surname: Ann MURRANT>>Age: 24>>Condition: Spinster>>Religion: Roman Catholic>>Residence: Pouch Cove, Nfld.>>Witnesses: John SHEA and Catherine MURRANT.

As this is the first bit of info regarding my GrGrandparents marriage & another spelling of my GrGrandmother's last name, I'm hoping to have contact with other member(s) who may be related or have information pertaining to these individuals.

Regards, :)

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Hello,

My query is re: MURRIN, Ann(e)...this is the name listed as my GrGrandmother on the m. cert. for her daughter/my grandmother, Helen "Nellie" Fitzgerald m. 1924 in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia to my Grandfather, John Whelan of Colliers, NL.

From the info I've been able to obtain, my GrGrandparents - Ann(e) Murrin m. Lawrence Fitzgerald (he was b. abt. 1882 from Small Point/Kingston, Bay de Verde, Newfoundland). GrGrandfather Lawrence had a sister that married a "Shea" from Pouch Cove (or area) and this would be how my GrGrandparents met. Since my Grandmother was born in 1904, I'm thinking that their time of marriage would be abt 1900 - 1904.

I have no other info on my GrGrandmother, Anne(e) MURRIN - perhaps b. abt. 1880; m. abt. 1900 - 1904. Her daughter/my grandmother's m. cert. lists her place of birth as New Aberdeen, Nova Scotia; there's a son, Lawrence, b. 1907 listed on his m. cert. as St. John's, Newfoundland.

If any of my info is possibly familiar or if you could forward info to me, that would be great, I'm truly "stumped" with my GrGrandmother!!

Regards, :)

Hello Steven,

I'm sorry I should have introduced myself. I didn't mean to be abrupt. I can only say it was late at night and I was somewhat excited. Please excuse me.

My name is Jerome Blackmore and I am by my reckoning your sixth cousin. My family was originally from Pinchard's Island in Bonavista Bay. Some members of the family moved from Pinchard's Island to Pilley's Island in Notre Dame Bay. Your family line descends from the Blackmores in Pilley's Island. They were fishermen first in Twillingate and then became miners in the Pilley's Island area.

Miners in the Pilley's Island area moved to Bell island to work in the iron mine there when the mining was no longer viable in the Pilley's Island area. This is how the Blackmores moved to Bell Island. They were there for several generations until that mine too became no longer profitable in the 1960s and they moved elsewhere. Some moved on earlier than that to New England as part of an ongoing movement of a large number of Newfoundlanders to the USA, particularly Massachusetts, or the "Boston States" as it was termed.
Forgive me if you are already aware of all this.

I have the particulars of my version of the Blackmore line from your dad back seven generations to Pinchard's Island if you haven't already got it.

If you want this information send me your e-mail address and I will give it to you.

Thank you,

Jerry Blackmore
She was born in Long Pond/Manuels in November, 1870, and died in Toronto March 7, 1925. She married William John Dawe (born September 3, 1865, Port de Grave) perhaps around 1890 I'm guessing. I believe her parents might have been Charles Bishop and Ann Porter of Long Pond/Manuels. Does anyone have access to records in that area? Thanks, Erin

This is kind of freaky! My husband is Jason Davidson, his father was Jim Davidson. Jim's half sister is Shirley Reid Gardner. So Shirley and Jim shared a biological mother, Phoebe Miller Coffin (from St. John's Newfoundland!!). From what I can deduce, Phoebe married a "Reid", a "Davidson" and then Earl Coffin and died in August of 1974 on Nantucket Island, MA, USA. Please contact me and I can get you in touch with Shirley and her children. This is exciting!

Hi All,

I'm looking for a connection for some Montreal Somerton's to their family in Portugal Cove.

First there is the family of
Peter Somerton born abt 1865 son of James Somerton and Selina Hibbs moved to Montreal 1894-1895 and married Sarah Elizabeth Legge in 1895. She passed away in 1897 and Peter remarried the widow Bertha Miller nee Hibbs of Newfoundland in Montreal. They proceeded to produce more Somerton's under a the Summerton surname.
They had 6 children William, Cora Selina, Frank Overton, Gordon, Edwin and Nelson.

Family 2
I have also found another Summerton family in Montreal with Newfoundland Roots.
William James Somerton/Summerton born March 1876 in Newfoundland. he married Emily Ulley of Quebec and they had 4 children I have found James Archibald, Frederick, Florence Selina and Richard.

The use of the name Selina in both Monreal families tells me they are likely connected.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Terry Piercey
tpiercey@rogers.com

Hi, my name is Catherine Summerton, Great Granddaughter of Peter Summerton on Montreal, who I am trying to trace. I know he was born on April 27, 1865 in Newfoundland. Everyone I have spoken with seems to think he was born in Portugal Cove. Does you Grandfather know of a Peter Summerton and if so does he know who his parents were?

My Grandfather was William Summerton and he had brothers Gordon, Nelson, Edwin, and a sister Cora. My Grandfather had 3 sons Benjamin William Arthur, Donald, and Peter.

Maybe we are one of the lost relatives!

Thanks

Catherine Summerton
