Any information regarding the subject names will be appreciated. They were all born & lived in Nfld, probably the Trinity area, near St. John's, except Harry/Henry Gibson, who was born in No. Ireland, c.1877.

Re: searching Bussey,Mills, French, Power, Tremills, Gibson
Hi! Well, it looks like we are related! My great-grandparents, Thomas Tremills [also used Mills] and Sarah French who were married in 1853 [Congregational church, St. John's], had ten children. One of them was Sarah Jane who was born in 1860 in Petty Harbour. So, your grandmother and my grandfather were brother and sister. I don't yet know when my great-grandmother or great-grandfather were born. I do, however, know that Sarah French lived to be very old. My father said that she was in the area of 98 or 99 when she died. She used to go to New York [I had speculated that it was to visit one of her children; possibly your grandmother] and the last time she was in New York she was hit by a car. She survived, but because she was so old she never really recovered. She went back to St. John's and died shortly after. Because there was a conflict in the family, I don't know much about my grandfather's other siblings other than my father's uncle Frank Mills. I have been trying to find out Thomas and Sarah's birthdates, but I haven't been lucky so far. I did find two French families in Petty harbour and the mothers' maiden names had been Layman and Cadwell. I do know the names [and birth years] of my grandfather's nine siblings, but perhaps you already have this information. The only Power connection that I know of so far is the one I told you in my last message. Please tell me anything else you know about Sarah and/or Thomas and anyone related. It's good to know about Sarah Jane Mills' family. Your mother or father?? was my first cousin and I never even got to know anything about them. I only know one Mills family in St. John's and this always bothered us all. Looking forward to hearing from you. Oh ya, the Tremills family was from Devon. They were Celts.

Re: searching Bussey,Mills, French, Power, Tremills, Gibson
to Helen Mills, Happy Day! Thanks for the news of our relation thru our great grandparents!! I don't think I know anymore about the Mills or French family, nothing about Power, but I now feel much more encouraged to continue this research. Were you referring to Devon, England re the Tremills family as Celts? or Celtics ? My father,Harry/Henry Gibson was from Belfast, N.Ire, but I haven't been able to trace any info about his family at all, except the bit on the Fed Census, NY, 1910,1915,1920. The Bussey family was listed as living together with him & my parents for a short while in NYC. Let's keep in touch & share any further research. Virginia Wyman

Re: searching Bussey,Mills, French, Power, Tremills, Gibson
Hi Virginia, I called my sister in Toronto and told her that I found you on the message board. She is as thrilled as I am and says to say hi to you. I also e-mailed my cousin in NFLD and sent him a copy of your message. He may know more about the Power connection and I know he knows some things about the Busseys, so he may also be helpful to you. In one of your messages you say that your grandmother had four children - named Alice Maud, John, Arthur and who was the fourth [female I think]. Which one is your mother? In my last message I mentioned that your mother or father was my first cousin but I meant my father's first cousin, of course. It was very distressing to my father, who grew up in St. John's, not to be allowed to talk to his relatives. Imagine. If it's okay with you, I will e-mail next time instead of sending a "public" message. I think I will feel more comfortable. I would like to know more about my grandfather's sister, Sarah Jane Mills. Anything else would be fun to know. I have been doing our family genealogy for a few years. I started with my mother's side who are all Irish and just got to my father's side not long ago. I knew some info and got some from my cousin in Newfoundland and did some of my own research. I have also been doing heritage scrapbooking so any info or related stories are gold to me. Your grandmother is my grandaunt! Imagine! Yes, I was referring to Devon, England re the Tremills family. At that time, they were all Celts [Celtic], much like the Irish. I will tell you a bit more about them when I e-mail. I can also send you the list of all of your grandmother's [Sarah Jane Mills] sisters and brothers if you want it.I guess that your faher never lived in NFLD but met your mother in New York?? Helen

Re: searching Bussey,Mills, French, Power, Tremills, Gibson
Helen Mills, Thanks for such a speedy, great, newsy reply! Yes, let's do more private e-mail from now on. I'll be happy to tell you all I know about Grandma Sarah J. Mills. Of her 4 children, my mother was Alice Maude; the 4th child was Sadie Mae. I can send you their birthdays, some death dates, a little private info re their lives in NYC. A rather interesting item: you said your mother's family was mostly Irish, well, my father's family was all Irish!! I was in St. John's in July,1999,; will tell you of that visit. Also spent a week in Dublin in 2001, on a useless search for my father's family. More about that search in the e-mail. Please confirm your e-mail; I have 2 for you. lots of news next time.

Re: searching Bussey,Mills, French, Power, Tremills, Gibson
Hi Virginia, Thank you also for the speedy reply. My sister was in NFLD in 2001. I haven't been there since 1974 but I expect to go back this coming summer or next. We have been close to our Mills cousins [my father's brothers kids] that we know in NFLD all our lives and they visited us often in Montreal where my parents moved to in 1947. My cousin [who I sent your message to] and I email most every day. He has done a lot of family genealogy. My mother's family was also all Irish, but Irish Newfoundlanders for a few generations. I am so excited to know more about your grandmother. My father would be thrilled! - and I will share what I know. Both e-mail addresses are good for me. I have one with the education network and one with sympatico. From the message board they all go out automatically from sympatico. I think that's because the other one is on a dial-up network. I can't believe that I am up so late e-mailing but I am so thrilled. I will e-mail tomorrow. Looking forward to hearing/sharing stories. Helen

Re: searching Bussey,Mills, French, Power, Tremills, Gibson
to Helen Mills; Did you get the e-mail I sent to you today? I used both of the ones you had, but got a notice the mail was undeliverable to helemills@eporeo.on.ca, which I sent as "cc". Maybe the one I marked as the main address reached you? Virginia

Re: searching Bussey,Mills, French, Power, Tremills, Gibson
Hi Virginia, Yes, I just got your e-mail. The other address is helemill@enoreo.on.ca I am so excited to get all this info and pictures from you. That is so incredibly kind of you! I can't wait to see the pics. I have been trying to track down a picture of my grandfather, your grandmother's brother. I know that one exists, but I don't know who has it. It will be wonderful to have one of your grandmother! I just got home from work and I am exhausted and hungry. I will write you a longer e-mail after supper and send you some info. I have been thinking about you all day! I never dreamed that I would be so lucky as to find you. Helen
