I am descended from one of 5 Tobin Brothers who left Ireland ( we believe Co.Cork) 2 settled in Newfoundland and the other 3 in Cape Breton. I have a good background on Nicholas and Patrick, and some on Thomas around Sydney. Is anyone researching the Tobins of Newfoundland.

I have a great, grand aunt Bridget Capstick, born about 1860, who married a Michael Tobin who may have been from Newfoundland or a descendent from someone from Newfoundland. While I don't have any factual information, I suspect they may have been married in the North Sydney/Sydney Mines/ Little Bras d'Or area of Cape Breton. The only other information I have is that they supposedly died in the Los Angelis, California area???
Any information/ideas/suggestions about these Tobins and especially about Michael and Bridget is very much welcome.

In my posting of January 4, 2002 I stated that my great grandaunt was Bridget Capstick who married a Michael Tobin. That was an error on my part. it was in fact Bridget's sister Emily who married Michael Tobin and lived in Los Angelis, California.

Jim Lane,
re your reference to Tobins of Trepassey.

I'm looking for info on Ellen Tobin of Trepassey who was married to William Heaney of St. John's and gave birth to Annie Madeleine Heaney on Jan. 3 1905 in St. John's.(RC)

I am researching Tobins who lived in P.E.I. from about 1865 to the present. I have a John Tobin, b. Newfoundland circa 1829, married to a Mary A. (maiden name unknown.) John's father was born in Ireland. John and Mary Tobin settled in P.E.I. lot 40, and had at least nine children.

I have a cousin, Margaret Bishop (born @1865) who was married to a John Tobin in NFL. Also, a great uncle, Michael Joseph Bishop (11 Mar 1879 to 1966) who was married to Catherine Tobin. I'd be very curious to know more about this family connection.

I don't know if we are related. I have a cousin, Margaret Bishop of NFL (born @1865) who was married to a John Tobin (no other information), and my great uncle, Michael Joseph Bishop of NFL (born: 11 Mar 1879, died: 1966) who was married to a Catherine Tobin. Let me know if you have a connection. Thank you.
