In the baptismal records of 1828-1836 for the Anglican parish of the "Cathedral of St. John the Baptist", (then Church of England) I found:
Robert son of Thomas and Anne Hollett was born 10 April and christened 25 Nov. 1828, by Frederic H Carrington A.B. Rector.
The index gave the baptisms of John and William Hollett (July 24, 1836) as being listed on page 2 of a similar record book for 1836-1848 but page 2 was missing !
However I then went to the Vital Statistics records vol. 26B and found a record for John, son of Thomas and Anne Hollett, born March 5, 1834, and William, son of Thomas and Anne Hollett born June 12, 1836, both baptised July 24, 1836 by Frederic H Carrington A.B., at the "Cathedral of St. John the Baptist".

In the vital statistics marriage records, vol. 26E , I found a marriage on Nov. 14, 1826, of Thomas Hollett, bachelor, and Anne Long, spinster, both of St. John's, at the "Cathedral of St. John the Baptist". The witnesses were Robert Long and Bridget Daly.

I checked records of the "Cathedral of St. John the Baptist" for the years back to 1811 for possible marriages of Thomas' two brothers, William and Henry
but didn't find anything.

Surnames: Castella, Costello, Hollett, Bragg, Raines, Spears
My husband's paternal line comes from St John's Bay, Newfoundland. His grandfather is William Henry Costello(Castella) married Elizabeth Hollett 21 Feb 1903 in Boston, Mass. William Henry was born in St. John's and Elizabeth Hollet was born in Adam's Cove, Newfoundland on 15 July 1883. Elizabeth's parents were John Hollett and Annie Bragg both of Newfoundland. Does this sound like the line youare researching?

thanks for your interest .The JOHN born to THOMAS HOLLETT and ANN was born MARCH 5TH 1834 in St John's I don't have any more knowledge of him .His brother HENRY (my husbands' grt grandfather) returned to DEVON in ENGLAND and married there in 1863.His father THOMAS was also present at the marriage.Henry moved to WALES with his family. There were 5 boys born to THOMAS and ANN but have no knowledge at all as to what happened to the other boys.We have checked censuses here to see if there any entries for the boys but have found nothing.Apparently some of the family stayed in NEWFOUNDLAND. 'OUR'John would have been well into his forties when 'your'ELIZABETH was born but it could be a possibility I suppose. If I come across anything on JOHN,I will get in touch.
good luck,
Buddug

The John that I speak of would be Elizabeth's father. It is entirely possible that he would have been in his 40s when she was born--especially if he had married more than once.
