I believe your great grandfather may have been my grandfather. He was from Long Beach around that time. He also had a son Cornelius (Leo sounds familiar too. My father's name was Cyril O'Neill and his other siblings were John, Thomas, Robert, Mary, Matilda, William, Bridget, Nora and James. Were any of these your grandparent

Sorry to take so long getting back to you. My Grandfather was your Grandfather's brother; William O'Neill. The burning question for the O'Neill's is where do they come from. My mother, who is still alive, and spent time at Long Beach says the three brothers; Thomas, William and Cornelius were first generation; Irish. She said they came from Dublin, where my Grandfather attended Dublin University and studied medicine. He was admitted in 1876, but left a few years later. Apparently he and his brothers were ordered out of Ireland by the Crown and granted land near St. John's which they exchanged for grants at Long Beach. My Grandfather still had some rudimentary medical knowledge, which he often used to help his neighbours. His daughter, my Grandmother, Frances (O'Neill) Bridger, and her sister Peggy, became nurses.

Hello, Theresa. My name is Anne Dalton, my grandmother was an O'Neill, from St.John's, Newfoundland. Her father was Martin O'neill from Fremeuse, Newfoundland. Like yourself haven't been successful in obtaing much information. I do know there are a number of Leo O'Neill's formerly living on the southern shore of Newfoundland, about 50 miles from St. John's. Hope this is somewhat helpful. Feel free to e-mail. Anne

According to the 1945 Census of St. John's, he was born in Harbour Grace in 1899. In 1945 he was living in the Mundy Pond area (part of the Boggy Hall District). He had originally lived on the Southside of St. John's and he's there in the 1935 census. I know he joined the Royal Newfoundland Regiment in 1915 and was wounded in the war. His mother was supposed to have died giving birth to him and his father drowned about 1914. I thought for a long while that he might be related to my grandfather but now after a lot of research I'm pretty sure he isn't.

hi, My name is William Morrison, I think we may be able to help each other out as i am looking for info on my great grandfather. I guess first we should make sure we are talking the same person, Leo lived at the head of Mundy Pond on some land that was "given" to him him by the government, my grandmother says he only got it cause he was squatting there, the house was mostly built out of the big old wooden shipping containers. He was missing a leg and most of one hand, my grandmother gave birth to my mother in 1956 and my mother was mostly raised by my great grandparents, Leo passed away in Nov 1977 when i was 11 months old. my grandmother's name is Lillian by the way. If any of this sounds about right drop me an email please so we may be able to exchange some info. my email is armybulldog@gmail.comThank you.

I had a good friend in Saint Johns Newfoundland in 1963/1964 who moved to Toronto in 1964. Have lost contact with her but would like to locate her. Her name is Margaret Madonna O'neil. She had a close friend named Ann Harding who also moved to Toronto. She had two brothers and a sister who was married to someone in the U. S. Air Force. Margaret would be about sixty eight years old and could be living it Canada or the USA. Any help will be appreciated, thanks Johnny ponder
