I am trying to make a connection to the Strickland's of the South Coast of Newfoundland. For the most part connections are difficult. I am hoping someone might help me with the connection of these groups below.
In the death records in Port Aux Basques, I found a Joseph Strickland b. 1813. He died June 17, 1894 in P.A.B. @ 81. His wife (Pathenah) they have it listed as Pathsna, b. 1819 d.July 5, 1905 @ 86. They had a son in Grole, Newfoundland named William b. Sept. 18, 1846. (Belloram Baptisms 1846-1866) Also I found William Thomas b.Sept 1852. He married Selina Pike b. Nov. 1857 (census 1921) Married Aug. 31, 1881 Channel. They had Gertrude, John, and Godfrey. Then I found Thomas Strickland that married Frances Susan LeFrense Feb. 2, 1874. Isles Aux Morte. I suspect this thomas is related to William Thomas & Frances of Isles Aux Morte; They had children Harriet b. 1829 Bap. 1830 by Wix. at Deadman's Island, and I think Thomas b. Jan. 3, 1842. I can't find birth records for those families mentioned. Thank you for any information. I am willing to share any information that I have. Manasseh

As I am quickly finding out Strickland has a very long history on the south coast of Newfoundland and it very difficult to trace back to the early 1800's. I am also researching the Strickland family and mine leads me to Little Bay/Stone Valley in Hermitage Bay, though I am sure that the south west connection is very close. My gr-gr Gfather is William Strickland (b 1841 in Little Bay, d May 2 1901). There were several Williams from that time period. He had two wifes. The first was Mary McDonald in 1861. That record shows Williams father as Thomas (no mother listed). I would like to find out more information on this Thomas and how all these Stricklands are connected. This Thomas could possibly be the man mentioned from Muddy Hole in the diary of Joseph Small. I have more information on the descendants if any anyone is interested. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking for my grandfather's family.. His name is Benjamin Strickland and lived in the St. John's area where he married Mary Kearsey. He was born in the early 1900's. I am unsure of his birthtown. My father is Edward Strickland .1948 in St. John's.

hi, i'm hoping u are still there and interested. I too am researching and have found some of my family roots. they lead to Thomas Joshua Strickland DOB: July 10, 1868 Isle Aux Mortes. He marries Clara Phoebe Osbourne. Thomas has a brother named John, and there are Archibald and Lewelln Strickland as well. Thomas Joshua's father was Thomas Strickland DOB: January 3, 1842 of Isle Aux Mortes. On my records it shows the mother as Helen Falkins. I can't find any record of her and suspect she may have died because he (Thomas) then marries Francis Susan LaFrense on February 2, 1874. Records show that thomas DOB: January 3, 1842 had parents named William and Frances, also shows as William & Fanny STRICKLAND. From there I am stuck. Cannot verify William and Frances marriage, perhaps it was in the us. Just to bring u up to date, Thomas Joshua born 1868 marries Clara Phoebe Osbourne. They have Herbert and John Strickland. Herbert is my grandfather. He marries Grace Glendenning McLeod in NS on June 18, 1923 and they have my dad Allister McLeod Strickland on October 5, 1924. He marries Hilda Marion Frances NEWMAN in Springhill NS June 25, 1949 and they adopt Bonnie Grace in 1958 and I am a birth child born November 2, 1960. Really really really would like more info...both current and older if possible. Anything on William and Fanny? or where they all came from? Please please let me know and many many thanks. Joy TARRANT (STRICKLAND)

There was also a Harriett, this record was taken from the 1830s records. There was a Thomas living in the Burgeo area at he same time, not sure if there is a connection with William of Isle aux Morts
