Dear Daryl,
My grandmother was Angelina (Selina) Hayward
She was born 1872-73 an Married Thomas Anderson b. 1870. Her parent's were Edward Hayward and Lavinia Giles and they were married Sept 24,1867. Their possible children were Elizabeth Hayward 1878.(James Thomas born 3-18-1870 and baptised9-16-1870 in Grand Bruit and maybe not the same family. From the Petites Methodist records) Angelina (Selina) 7 April 1873 but family says 1872.
Elizabeth married John Thomas Billard born 1879 of Robert and Sarah of England
I have a Rebekah born 3-12-1863, Mary Ann.born in Garia 12-13-1856 bap 9-7-1857,Susan Elizabeth born 1-31-1870 bap 1-1870
There is also a James Hayward born Aug 28,1860 to John and Maryanne from Garia. He was baptised Oct 7,1860
At one time Edward Hayward was a fisherman in Grand Bruit which is about 15 miles from Rose Blanche.
As well as Garia and Grand Bruit I know they were in La Poile and La Plante. I have trouble with records as many of them were lost for those areas when the minister and the ship he was on went down.
Hope this helps,
Pat, in Michigan

This sounds very interesting. I have come across a few people that have family from Garia. I hope to go there next year. I have been to Newfoundland three times and love it. I will be delayed in answering more because I just moved recently and the one room that has all my information is a mess. Everything is still in boxes. Please be patient with me Daryle

Lavinia and Edward Hayward were my geatgrands. Their daughter Angelina (Selina) married Thomas Anderson and they lived in Rose Blanche. Their son Edward was my father.
Do you have any information on Edward Hayward's parents? I think she was from Grand Bruit and he was from La Poile.
Are you my cousin?

I have information on three Haywards. Edward and Lavinia Giles Hayward who lived in Grand Bruit, John and Mary Ann Troke Hayward, living in Garia (their daughter Rebekah married my great-uncle John A. Hartnell and moved to Salem Wisconsin) and William and Sarah Herridge Hayward who lived in Indian Harbor. I have not been able to make a connection yet. John Hayward was a lay-preacher in the Weslayan Methodist church. I think he was one that encouraged so many to go to Anticosti Island. I have the children's names and their birthdays and baptisms from the Methodist Church Vital Statics. Daryle

We went fishing in Garia Bay with my grandfather Tom and his brother Henry who was deaf and had little understandable vocl language and sign langue. He was the one that influenced me in becoming a Speech and Language Therapist. Garia is so beautiful and is also the place that people used to find some gold in the quartz. We camped there a few days and the fish fresh caught were wonderful
