My family married into the Stickland family. Ruby Stickland married Robert Bulbrook. She was living in Rencontre West (where my Durnford family lived) and she married my mother's brother Robert Bulbrook from England. My mother was a war bride that married into the Durnford family and her brother followed her to Nfld. Their children reside in Ottawa. Ruby Stickland wasn't originally from Rencontre West, I believe her father was the postmaster there.

Hi,
We have a (?Frances) Harriet Strickland known as Sis (West Point, NL) m. Ambrose Davidge (Burgeo, NL) who lived in Burgeo, Newfoundland, Canada. They had 2 children, Hubert and Mabel who were born in Burgeo by 1887. They moved to New Glasgow, NS, probably around 1902.

We have the descendancy of John Davidge/Sarah Jane Guy, parents of Ambrose.

I met a couple in NL last summer with the last summer with the last name of Strickland near Kippens.

Please contact me if I can be of help. We now have a group researching the Davidge family, along with the Guy, Matthews, Anderson and Bagg families who are on the female ancestral line.

If your Strickland comes from or lived in NL, they may be related.

Hello, did you ever find out if Harriet was the daughter of William and Fanny Strickland?

I have Harriet as being born to William and Fanny Strickland 1828/9 on Isla aux Morts and baptised by Edward Wix Oct. 1830 at Deadman's Bay, Grand Island.
Interestingly there are 2 Stricklands on the 1900 USA census of Lummi Island, Washington. Both were born in Newfoundland. They are;
George Strickland b. abt 1851 and Alberta E.Strickland b. 1883.
Interseting because they are working at a small fishery where Alexander Butt, of Newfoundland, also worked and Alexander was the husband of Clara Poole Butt who was the daughter of Harriett(Strickland) & John Poole.

Hello,
This is a start in my search for information. Your dates are consistent with my grandparents Archibald Strickland and Minnie (Farrell) Strickland from Lapierr Bay Newfoundland was wondering if they appear in your research. Other names that appear in my Newfoundland ancestors Anderson, Farrell, Jones, Strickland all from the same area.

Thankyou,
DjStrickland

My great grandfather was John A. Stickland born may,1875 in Hants Harbour. He married Druscilla/Drucilla Beeton(?) who was born in English Harbour, in Sep 1849. I have from them on but have not been able to go back further. They were Salvation Army. I have found the Grand Banks site helpful for early census. Any ideas you have on how else to search in Nfld would be appreciated. Thank you. Sara

Stickland/Hants Harbour jumped out at me

I am adding to the extended branches in my files, and I have Zillah & brother Amos Stickland in my files from Hants Harbour. As well, Amos was a clergyman for Salvation Army when moved to the States.

Zillah b:1877 Hants Hr
Amos b:1886 Hants Hr.

on 1924 Ships list, Amos lists his nearest relative as Mrs. W. Ellis, St. John's Newfoundland. So theres at least 3 of them.

Perhaps a connection? Feel free to email me
