GREENE & GREEN of South Coast & Placentia

Classification: Query
Surnames: Green, Greene
In compiling a family tree for the Point Verde,Placentia, Greenes, I've noticed that on the South Coast there are Greenes/Greens with the same sort of names...Austin,Augustine,Nicholas,etc.,and i am wondering if anyone knows of a very old connection between those of South Coast and Point Verde,Placentia.
My GGG-GF,John Green and his brother Robert came in from Boston about late 1778,Robert having fought briefly on USA side. The family were Quakers. John evenrually married into the RC population of Placentia, but one brother(name unknown),remaining Protestant, moved to "the other side of the island" (only direction we have),married there and raised a family. This would have been late 1700s or very early 1800s. Meanwhile, my GGG-GF and his family(brother, parents) were buried in the Anglican cemetery in Placentia up to 1829.After that, his RC descendants were buried in RC cemetery.
If this rings any bells for any Anglican(or other) Greens and Greenes on the south Coast,or elsewhere, please do contact me and compare notes.I so far have accumulated 192 pages on Point Verde Greens/Greenes. Thanks.Ward.wardgreene@hotmail.com

Hi Ward,
My Grandmother was Mary Catherine Green(e), and she married William Hubert Moulton from Burgeo. I have been searching for ANY information about her for more than eight years now.
They were married in St. John's, but I haven't been able to find out anything more than that about her.
He was born in 1880, in Burgeo, so I am assuming she was born around the same year or a few years later. And that, my son is the sum total of what I have. I do know she was living in Dartmouth in 1962, and was still alive in 1967, but that is the sum total of what I have.
If you have anything that sounds like her in your records, I would appreciate anything you have to offer. Please contact me either here or at shonadese23@aol.com

Hi Shona......nope,can't help at all. I searched my documents for Moulton(no luck) and then just Burgeo(no luck). Sometimes a note might say "married a man from Burgeo", for example.#####I have 235 pages on Point Verde/Placentia Green(e)s. Your Mary Catherine could well be related, but I have no evidence of anything. We have lots of Marys and lots of Catherines....but I'd need a lot more to go on. The fact that they were married in St. John's could have some meaning, because that is not far from Point Verde/Placentia. But it could well be other Green(e)s. One thing to consider.......I personally have no religious beliefs.....but in looking for genealogy,it can be a great help. For example, there are two major lots of Greenes in Nfld., plus various smaller lots......the two largest are the Point Verde Greenes who have been RC for over 200 years(previously a mix of Quaker & Anglican).....and the Trinity Bay Greenes, who are basically Anglican.###### While not proof, this could give you a hint as to where to look.Another well-known group is at Greenspond area./ Hope this helps in some way.##### If you find your MNary Catherine was RC, I'm quite happy to email you my 235 pages of Greenes,if you have the patience to search it. It is searchable by computer ,of course, but you might have to c heck every Catherine, then every Mary. If Mary Catherine was Anglican or anything else,I'm still happy to email you my files,as they might be of general help v ia the pre-amble. B est of luck....Ward
