Power, Dunphy, Whalen, Barron
I'm just getting started with family tree search for Power in Placentia Bay. There is a oral history of three brothers having arrived at Pond Head in Little Placentia(Now Argentia) and being set up in the fishery by the merchant Sweetman. There is also a Rhyme - Pat Mikel and Tom -Steve Maurice & John Etc.... There are definately relatives in the Grand Falls area and plenty in New York and other US locations. There were marriages to a Barron, a Whalen and a Dunphy. My Grandfather was William a teacher in Placentia died 1936 2nd spouse Gertrude Healey. There seems to be some confusion as to when they arrived I have seen indications that they arrived around 1800 but Seary's history of NF names shows brothers Maurice, John and Thomas arriving Argentia in 1730-35 which fits the three brothers senerio.

Re: Power, Dunphy, Whalen, Barron
Hello Don and Andre; Do either of you have a Hanorah/Nora Power and/or a Bridget Power? Hanorah would have been born about 1856 and was married to John Doran. Bridget may have been married to Edward Fulford (prop. of Fulford's Hotel, Placentia). Thanks, Theresa

Re: Power, Dunphy, Whalen, Barron
Helllo Theresa - I have info that Honora's father was a a Peter married Anastasia Baron - Peter would have been the son of a MORIS POWER who would have married a Oner Blanch.... I haven't got all my notes in front of me yet.. Oner would be a descendant of a Louis Blanch who came to Placentia at the time of Louis XIV in France. ( I am related to the Blanch fellow ) and my wife Lynn Power is " possibly" related to this MORIS... though not yet confirmed Anyway I would love to know more about this MORIS POWER and would appreciate starting a dialogue with you - Please send me an email of forum - alafar@nb.sympatico.caRegards Andre Lafargue

Re: Power, Dunphy, Whalen, Barron
Hi, hoping to jump in here. My ggrandmother was Mary Power who married John O'Reilly in 1852. They were from the Little Placentia area. Does this Mary sound familiar to any of you? I have nothing on her at all. My Barron connection is John Barron (1822-1918?) who married Johannah Hickey. Thanks

Re: Power, Dunphy, Whalen, Barron
HI ANDRE, I BELIEVE I AM TALKING TO THE RIGHT PERSON, I AM ON THE GRANT SIDE OF THE FAMILY. YOU WERE EMAILING MY SISTER BERNADETTE SOME MONTHS AGO. I BELIEVE SHE TOLD YOU THAT ANDREW AND KATHERINE GRANT HAD ONLY 2 CHILDREN. I WAS UP TO PLACENTIA AND FOUND WHERE ANDREW WAS BURIED, I GOT A PICTURE OF THE HEADSTONE SHOWING THAT THERE ARE 2 SONS BURIED WITH HIM. SO HE HAD AT LEAST 4 CHILDREN. IF I AM SPEAKING TO THE RIGHT PERSON AND YOU WOULD LIKE A PICTURE OF THE HEADSTONE PLEASE LET ME KNOW AND I WILL EMAIL IT TO YOU. REGARDS
