Hi i'm researching my family tree my ggg grandfather is James Gill wife Mary Beaton.I was wondering if you had any info on that line of the family.im stuck on James and Mary. do know that James has 2 brothers and all three were born in Wimborne, County Dorset, England. I have heard that Mary was born in Exploits, Newfoundland. they married around 1830. I also heard that she might have been native and thats why there is no record of her birth.Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx for your time.

hi pam....

I tried to get james gill in dorset but there were too many james gills to be sure which one was which.

I will try to do some other research to see if anything new has come up.

mary beaton WAS native and worked in captain peytons household when shawnadithit? sp was residing there.

This was told by her son john henry gill when he was an old man ....he said she would tell him and his siblings stories about her youth on long cold winter nights.

It is always interesting to find something new on this family. If I find anything I will post it here. micmak1

geez!....sorry pam!

I was in such a hurry that I did not give you all the info. I have the baptism in my shoebox but do not know how to send it to you in the message boards.

type in james gill 1800 dorset england.

the baptisms and all the other gill stuff (not related) will pop up so scroll down to the baptisms for wimborne dorset - james gill 1799 and father john.

I looked at the original and it is only one line without a mother mentioned. This way you can print it off (both the written & the original) to have.

I am so with you on the stacks of paper that I have and all the "might be connected people" too!

thanks for the offer on info I may need some soon. micmak1

I am compiling my family tree. My Great Grand Mother was Mary BEATON Nee PAUL) from Wigwam Point born 1880-1941. She moved to Norris Arm and this is where she died. I will be determining soon if she is buried there. She was married to Alfred Joseph BEATON from Norris Arm....Having said all that, I would like to go deeper into my ancestry and find out who my Great Great Grandparents were etc......Any information anyone can provide would be GREATTTTTT

hello sheldon!

Mary paul was my husbands great grandmother. I spent 4 years (& 2 trips to newfoundland) to the archives to find anything I could about the elusive Paul family.

I am 98% positive that MARY PAUL MI'KMAQ (1872)was the illegitimate daughter of ELLEN PAUL MI'KMAQ & THOMAS BARNES (who was married at the time to SUZANNE YOUNG. I found a baptism for MARY in the archives - the dates fit and ELLEN was one of the names that MARY & ALFRED named one of their twin daughters (they died soon after birth)

ABRAHAM, BEN and ELLEN are all said to be children of NOEL PAUL - ELLENS mother was JOHANNA SYLVESTER.

MARY & ALFRED BEATON (1867)named their first born daughter JOHANNA (she married widowed HERBERT MANUEL)

ALFRED BEATON (1867)was the son of ALFRED BEATON (1822)(C of E - born in SUSSEX, ENGLAND) & MARY ANNE PORTER who married him at 13/14 and died in 1876. ALFRED (1833) remarried to ELIZABETH PHELAN and had one son JAMES CHRISTOPHER

there is a trip planned for ENGLAND in the near future to get more data.

Sheldon...who do you belong to? The line I worked on came down through MARY PAUL into STEPHENVILLE but I have lots of info for all the different lines. let me know. MICMAK1

It sounds like we are related but I am not sure.....My Mother was Angela BEATON from Norris Arm South. Her Father was Ernest BEATON and Mother Alice Dwyer. Ernest BEATON and Alice had 6 children as far as I know. Their names are: Alfred, Melba, Roland, Frank, Susanna and Charles. Ernest BEATON's Mother was Mary PAUL from Wigwam Point and his Father was Alfred Joseph BEATON from Norris Arm South. Mary PAUL eventually died in Norris Arm South so I am going to try and find her grave site.

sheldon,

you are close but the names you have there are MARY PAUL & ALFRED BEATON'S children unless ERNEST (UNCLE EARN to the family)named all his children the same.

my husbands family is from FRANK BEATON (brother to ERNEST) and MARY BRIDGET CONNERS. FRANK'S daughter MELBA MARY (deceased) was my husbands mother. She married DAVID SCHUMPH and moved to STEPHENVILLE.

ALFRED & MARY PAUL'S CHILDREN:

JOHANNA, (TWINS THAT DIED -ELLEN & JULIA)ERNEST,FRANK (MY FAMILY), ALFRED (DIED OF TB), CHARLES (DIED OF TB), MARY FRANCES (KNOWN AS SUZANNE - MARRIED AND LIVED IN ONTARIO)ROLAND & MELBA MARY.

CHARLES, ALFRED & MELBA MARY never married but CHARLES did live with a woman with two children - apparently there was lots of info with him but when he died the woman got rid of it all or took it with her.

CHARLES & ROLAND are buried in the INDIAN CEMETARY in WIGWAM POINT.

ROLAND & THERESA'S son GERALD (BUD) BEATON gave it to the INDIAN BAND a few years ago. He recently sold the original land where they all lived (2 years ago? or longer) and moved to BOTWOOD. He is a wealth of information.

to look at census etc for NFLD go to NEWFOUNDLAND GRAND BANKS SITE - chebuto?.org -it will come up.

look at the top bar under the NFLD grand banks and go to official lists - click on that then click census and scroll down to 1921 first then click on twillingate and then click on PETERS ARM.

you will find MARY BEATON - WIDOW & THE CHILDREN

Then repeat at the top of the bar to go to 1935 - twillingate & then click NORRIS ARM

Scroll down and you will see dwelling #57 - family #61 is ALFRED & MARY'S oldest daughter JOHANNA & HERBERT MANUEL

#74 - #79 -FRANK BEATON & MARY (OUR FAMILY) & MELBA the daughter that will become my husbands mother

#82 - #88 - is your family of ERNEST & MARY BEATON listing their children that they have at that time which are

IRENE (1928), ANGELA (1929) & LEONARD (1933)

f you are trying to get your INDIAN STATUS the line to MARY PAUL worked for us and my husband has his number.

let me know if there is specific things you need because I can tell you that you can get the marriage for MARY & ALFRED from your vital stats office (we did) and the marriage/birth (ERNEST) of your parents with your long form birth cert that shows your parents on it.

KEEP IN TOUCH! I have info that you might use...I just completed a tree for a METIS from MANITOBA for the same thing and there are perscrip, glasses, education funding etc available for you from NFLD!

let me know what I can do. MICMAK1
