Yes, we have those silly French monks to blame for "Beaulieu", but anyway there's no point in looking to modern French to decide what the pronunciation should be; our Frenchies spoke medieval Norman French. You can come across all sorts of weird spellings for it in old documents. Anyway it's no more of a surprise than finding out the Sioux are really called Sue. Burley in old docs is often Burleigh (and if you didn't visit the village you really don't know what you missed). Oh, and Christchurch used to be called Twynham. The other thing set up to confuse the unwary is that most of the placenames in the New Forest begin with B: Burley, Brockenhurst, Beaulieu, Buckler's Hard, two spots called Blackbush, Boldre, the completely separate Boldrewood, Bashley, Berkeley, Bransgore. . . . I could go on.

Re: Osmonds from Mortons Harbour
Hey Deb, I have been working on my family tree for a while now. I have come to learn that My great grandmother is from Fogo Island, Newfoundland area. Her name was Nellie Osmond, she married a Mugford from Makinsons, Newfoundland. I know Nellies fathers name was Dorman Osmond born August 1876, I believe he died March 25 1951. Nellies mothers name was Agnes Dowell born 1878 and I believe to have died July 25 1950.
I believe I have found infor on Dorman Osmond parents. I believe his fathers name was George Osmond and I only know his mother as Victoria Osmond.George Osmond was boorn in Moreton's Harbour Newfoundland.
Dorman was born in Tizzard Harbour Newfoundland. His wife Agnes was born in Betts Cove Newfoundland.
If you know of any other info that could help me with my family tree in the Fogo Island area please do contact me.
Thank you
Evan :)
